2012 NHL Playoffs Thread
Re: 2012 NHL Playoffs Thread
Some last night (I forget if it was CBC or TSN) thought Torres may get 'The Playoffs' as his suspension.
I can't see it being THAT long, but 3-5 games is likely.

I believe by definition it is late. 0.5 seconds is the cut off, (off the top of my head), and he had a 0.87 second delay I saw Bobby Mac say last night on Twitter.
I also think the PPC was hossa's head?
Oh well... let the wheel of justice spin

Saw this posted elsewhere.
Stupidity Fine:
Offender has to pay injured players’ salary for as long as the injured player is out + automatic 20 game suspension, more if deemed particularly heinous.
This can be particularly painful if you’re a 4th line plugger and you take out a star player.

Re: 2012 NHL Playoffs Thread
Let's say the cutoff is actually 0.5 for arguments sake, and he hit him at 0.87, could you actually tell the difference in 0.37 seconds in real life doing something that quickly? IMO that's way too close still to call for a late him, he did charge and he did leave his feet but to call it late based on 0.37 seconds seems a bit much to me.
Re: 2012 NHL Playoffs Thread
Everyone knows $2500 is not enough... but basing it on a players salary is also a mistake. For the same act someone making more should not have to pay more, that's actually an extreme left-wing view. And that already occurs when they are suspended, however the argument there is that they are being fined 'games' and not active salary days.
Now the NHLPA bartered for that low fine, and the right to be involved in suspensions -> but then they decided to never suspend their own, and are ALWAYS on the side of the accused --> They were awarded the right to self-police and represent against the NHL BOG but they consistently fail to represent themselves when a member does wrong to another member. Much like the NHL head office has made a VP of Hockey & head disciplinarian (or w/e Shanny is called) the NHLPA should appoint 2 members who are focused on the rights of each individual in the incident.
NHLPA rep for suspension/fine
Shanny - supposed to be the ex-player who understands some level of right and wrong + respected by players.
NHLPA rep against suspension/fine
I'd also open up the range of fines, so $2500 is the minimum, and something more like $30'000 is the max - but then you can get to the point where a couple of games is less then the $30k and blah blah blah... talked myself in a circle there but don't feel like deleting.

Re: 2012 NHL Playoffs Thread
Gino Reta was interviewing some clown from Vancouver on TSN yesterday and I can't believe some of the bullshit he came up with.
He wants the NHL to have instant replay on EVERY goal, he wants coaches to get a couple of challenges a game, wants refs to have the ability to replay any play they want, whenever they want.
Those would be good ways to ruin the flow of the game.

Re: Nick, in my long diatribe I wasn't meaning to come accross as more salary = bigger fine. Just attempting to make the point that 2500$ is laughable insignificant to these guys by relating it to more ...er.... relatable figures.

They worked out ratio's to bring that $2500 into perspective.thom54 wroteCOLONRe: Nick, in my long diatribe I wasn't meaning to come accross as more salary = bigger fine. For a person making $50,000, that is equal to $16
Weber makes about $2500 per shift, on average.
That's how insignificant $2500 fine is to somebody making $7,500,000 per season.
