So... Lou?

Post by Nick »

What are everyone's thoughts regarding the Vancouver goaltending situation?

Going to Cory for elimination... b2b2b, paints a relatively clear picture doesn't it?

To be clear, I think they chose to go with Schneider moving forward. Lou isn't a back up, but he does control his own destiny (NMC for 2 more year, out year after June 2014 iirc).

So do they trade him? Where would he go? What is he worth?

Canuck fans of course are more delirious as to his value then most, 5.33M cap hit isn't crazy, but signed for 9 more years is rather a lot to swallow (new hampshire). I'd be shocked if he got more then a solid backup + mid range prospect or a depth NHL (bottom 3 D, bottom 6 forward).

Do they want a backup or does Eddie Lack come up?

His mental toughness is his problem. He won't work in Toronto.

He'll get traded and be fine, but not Toronto.

He'll go for more than a back up goalie and a depth player, but yeah he needs to get moved. Schneider is the better goalie I've been saying this all along, and nothing against luongo, still a top goalie in the league.

Nick meant after 2014 Luongo has to give Vancouver 5 teams he'll accept a trade to.

Yeah that's a more reasonable offer than some of the other ones I've heard.

lou is still the top tender in the league and i have no problem taking on luo.. he actually comes quite cheap at cap hit and tor has absolutely no trouble paying the money... who cares about his mental game in playoffs or not.. we need to make the playoffs first

He can stay in Vancouver unless they wanna trade him for like a 2nd round pick.

I don't think people would say he's THE top goalie in the league. But he is a top10 goalie and plays very efficiently. At 6 more years of legit salary before taking a dive....he's not a 35+ contract so he retires it's all OK.
He will get a solid package in return I think. It's hard to actually get a legit #1 starter that is constantly up there in that range; not a goalie that depends on a system to be a top tier goalie. Luongo has done it in different systems and fans just get retarded about him.

Depending on the price to Toronto, I'd take him 7 days a week. Depends in management truly believes in Reimer. But...if he develops under Luongo...just another asset, one way or the other.

I won't crush you for your take on Luongo but I'll take Thomas, Lundqvist, Quick and Rinne for starters over Lu...there are probably several others I'd take. He did get them within a game of the Cup last year but he had some absolutely rotten games in the finals. The Canucks can probably suceed with Schneider going forward...Lu ultimately needs a change of scenery to less of a pressure cooker. Toronto might be even worse for him than Vancouver.

Are you going off of futures or right now? b/c.... you're insane if you say Pavlovec now, Futures...you knock Thomas off. Backstrom? no. no. no. MIN system, I can't believe the hate that Luongo gets because if VAN doesn't do well it's always his fault. Let me know when Goalies score consistently.

Currently?
Lund, Rinne, Quick (HOW IS BERNIER NOT HERE ALREADY KYLE?!) , Thomas, Price (best on his knees in the league I think ... and at butterfly slides too! :P). Fucking mtl....

Fluery..over rated. But solid #1 starter for sure. top12ish?
Ward, love him and very solid. I'd put him around Luongo's level.
Miller ... around Luongo too.
Backstrom. Below. Injury risk.
Halak. No, not yet. Hitchcock system was a huge boon. He should be just below Luongo, maybe overtakes him next year.

So the goalies around Loungo's tier would be Ward and Miller, Kipper too (I'd love to see what he'd do with not playing 70+ games every year).

But I think without a doubt he should be considered a top10 goalie. The "ranking" is always in flux, but I like the tier sorting.

I still think Luongo is a good goalie. But I would not take him on the Leafs because of his lack of mental toughness. The media would eat him alive and he'd have more struggles than he has in Vancouver.

FTW, Lundqvist, Halak, Quick, Rinne, Thomas, Miller, Price, Lehtonen, Smith, Schneider.

Those are the goalies I'd prefer to Luongo. However, Lundqvist, Quick and Rinne are Top 3. Luongo is in the group with the others, but I put him at the bottom of the group.

Once again, This

and to that Thoms guy, i'd take those guys (on my list) now, IMO they are all as good and if not better than LU.

LU game is very mental, he couldn't handle the pressure of Toronto; whereas a guy like Thomas (who's a fackin wack job) could completely handle the pressure of playing in toronto.

I think Lou's issues are overblown, he's a legit top 10 goalie IMO. Superior to Halak, Lehtonen, or Smtih. In the same group as Thomas, Miller, Kipper, and Price - who all seem one step behind Rinne, Quick and of course the King Mr.Lundqvist.

Agreed 100% only issue with Luongo is 10 more years on his contract.
