Idea for the League: Asset Management
We need to create a forum/site for ALL assets. We've had some problem with draft picks etc. Here is where I think the problem is: This site is a forum. Hence all changes are made manually. i.e. 1) trade is made 2) one of the admin registers changes on forum. Now despite the great job that the admin people do, this process is subject to human error and its not their fault, its bound to happen. and i think too much is on the plate of a small group of people in this league while the rest just reap the benefits. so lets change that a little .
I'm going to be looking online for a system of automation for this process. The automated system will work something like:
1) You post trade (players, prospects, picks whatever)
2) The system automatically readjusts the assets and gives each teams new group of assets.
3) The system automatically registers the trade in a trade log.
Now I know this can be done on excel (my knowledge with macros is limited but i know its programmable) but I was wondering if anyone knew a site where you can:
1) Set a publicly available excel spread that everyone in this league can edit, but where there is also a password.
2) Perhaps a different site that can make this automation process easier (through fields of entry whatever).
The forum is great to converse and posting/announcing trades to receive feedback or whatever. But in terms of managing, tracking and registering trades we can come up with a better system. I'm going to make this a project for the summer. Whoever wants to help can let me know. I'm going to need help regardless of how I do this (esp if it involves macros) so whoevers on board/if you have an idea post it here and we can go from there.

I've considered making one but if anyone else is proficient in PHP I'd welcome the assistance.

Re: Idea for the League: Asset Management
It would be great to have a one-stop shop for all assets. I think there should be a committee in charge of keeping track of pieces moving from one team to another. We've got to get everyone to give us what they have and then put something together. We oughta just set aside some time where we have a roster freeze for a couple weeks to allow everyone to get caught up...like after the draft.
Maybe there should be a rep for each division that can manage stuff. I'd step up and gladly represent the Central Division. I've said a couple times that I'd like to help with something but couldn't think of what area needs the most help. I think what we is to have multiple sets of eyes keep track of things and take some of the heat off those that are taking on these big tasks by themselves. I'd love to help...I wish I knew PHP where I could help you, Mike.

An interactive site where you can click through each time and see their assets would be fantastic. Update games played yearly for waiver purposes, and birthdays just once. The issue would be each draft would mean 210 new entrants, and a whole lot of leg work to start off.

i was thinking the same thing. like a 1 week roster freeze once we figure out how to do this stuff. and then we implement it.Shoalzie wroteCOLON We oughta just set aside some time where we have a roster freeze for a couple weeks to allow everyone to get caught up...like after the draft.

There has to be a fantasy site out there that is more powerful than CBS.
I'll be honest, CBS is not my favorite site to use but they seem to allow the most statistics and customization. Yahoo and ESPN are more user-friendly. ESPN does have draft picks as part of the assets where you can include them in trades...I don't know how it would work with future years and how it works during the offseason. I left ESPN for hockey a few years ago because they never updated their site from year-to-year...I think it's been improved since then. The league manager for baseball and football are quite good. I doubt they have the stats like CBS has.
Re: Idea for the League: Asset Management
Stats are #1 priority with the site we use. I'll take any fault with CBS because of the stats.

thats not what i meant shep. this is all about what happens after a trade is agreed upon. not what comes before it (which is where cbs provides immense value that we need to keep). but in terms of tracking and processing trades it would be very helpful to have some sort of automated infrastructure in place. that's a goal to reach before the start of next season.Snipeshow wroteCOLONStats are #1 priority with the site we use. 1) id be fine with entering 210 names every season only ONCE per year vs. tracking every trade dailyinferno31 wroteCOLONAn interactive site where you can click through each time and see their assets would be fantastic. 2) its possible to automate this process as well. we'll address all issues to make this system

He was responding to me.
CBS gets the job done...I'm just an aesthetics snob though. It's kind of a clunky layout but as Shep said, it does a lot with stats and that's what fantasy sports truly is. All this other stuff that we do is just icing on the cake. We can probably make our own separate site for managing things and we've got this forum instead of using the league message board on the CBS site. The old days of fantasy sports used to be a pad of paper, the boxscores in the daily paper and a calculator. Man, have we come a long way...
