That is nuts. Landeskog is a natural leader though - smart long-term move by the Avs. Although this might mean the end of Stastny in Colorado.

Gotta think if he was int he plans the C would go to Stastny..SuperMario wroteCOLONThat is nuts. Landeskog is a natural leader though - smart long-term move by the Avs. Although this might mean the end of Stastny in Colorado.
Imo Ryan O'Reilly should be the C over a 19 year old Lando
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
lots of reports of Landy being a natural leader. Probably sets the tone in the dressing room just like he does on the ice.
Bold move by the Avs, but if you believe in the kid and he already owns the room, no reason to wait.
Of course we don't know if he owns the room, or if this was a top down decision. Either way it's interesting. Not sure why this spells the end of Stas...

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
It doesn't, but it is a bit of a slap in the face to Paul Stastny who has supposedly been a big locker room presence the last 7 seasons. If I were him, I'd be pissed off, regardless of how good a captain Landeskog is.Nick wroteCOLONNot sure why this spells the end of Stas...
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I have not heard him mentioned as a big locker room presence in a positive manner. The last 2 years have been filled with speculation of him versus coach, him wanting a trade, his dad not happy with GM. On top of that, I do no believe he's been wearing an A for COL nor was he a letter wearer during his development years at UofD (iirc Matt Carle was the team captain, no clue on A's).
Anyways, a player feeling entitled to a letter is almost surely a sign that he is in fact not a leader. So I'd hope he doesn't feel slighted, but if he does it actually supports managements decision, IMO. A leader is a leader w/o the title in my experience, and it's a combination of their character in the dressing room and play on the ice -> one alone doesn't do it from my experience and perspective on good leaders around the NHL.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Stastny has been an A for a while now, and he has been mentioned as a positive locker room for a long time now, by the coach and management when denying trade rumors. The issues with his father have nothing to do with Paul.
As for your second point, it is entirely possible to be a good leader, and still be pissed off that an 18 year old with one year under his belt got the C over you. It is disrespectful, and suggests that management takes him for granted.

@ 6M a season it's unlikely he feels taken for granted.

I think he does, and judging by Quincey's comments last year, I don't think he is the only Av that feels that way. The team is run poorly.Nick wroteCOLON@ 6M a season it's unlikely he feels taken for granted.

I can tell you Lando was a huge locker room presence for Kitchener when he played here. He's 100% captain material, just surprised it came so soon at the NHL level.

Nope, i'm sure he would be a great captain, in about 7 years.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONI don't think that anyone doubts Gabriel Landeskog's leadership abilities.Chuck Norris wroteCOLONI can tell you Lando was a huge locker room presence for Kitchener when he played here.
