Re: Relocation
Not if they win this Labour Dispute they just filed -> there won't be anyone dumb enough to own a pro-hockey team in Quebec. Making the (any) job a divine right is insanity and will surely be viewed as a toilet bowl by future investors.
Re: Relocation
So.. the Habs are going to play with themselves..?
Re: Relocation
NJD moved to a hockey market... perhaps a lot of what factors into the NHL's persistence in keeping the PHX's, etc's where they are is the TV exposure in large USA markets... PHX is a massive TV market, unfortunately 10 fans.
I'm not sure of the specifics though.

Alberta is doing the exact same thing...Nick wroteCOLONNot if they win this Labour Dispute they just filed -> there won't be anyone dumb enough to own a pro-hockey team in Quebec. Making the (any) job a divine right is insanity and will surely be viewed as a toilet bowl by future investors.

Nah, Calgary and Edmonton are making the same filings. We'll have a 3 team league next year and a guaranteed Canadian cup winner!Lee wroteCOLONSo.. the Habs are going to play with themselves..?

I heard they pulled their file - not a chance under Alberta Labour.
This is some left-wing idea on saving jobs, and it's absolutely destructive to an economy. France is in the process of implementing a law that makes it more expensive to fire/lay someone off then it is to employ them, and simply with the rumour of the majority government being in favour of this - companies began closing their doors while they could. Not sure if the union's pushing this understand it's their own closure they are pursuing. The basic foundation of our economy is a trade of value for services (or another item of value), value is determined by demand. This literally changes that, it's an marxist ideology and has crumbled economies around the world as they swing further away for free enterprise and towards extreme socialism/communism. Obviously an extensively studied area in both history and economics, as countries close their borders, increase the 'size' of their government and/or begin to view quality of life, income ,or ownership as (what seems to an outsider) a divine right - this often results in the loss of all 3 - and the circle tightens.
I personally find the NHLPA lacking in understanding teetering on a farce. They operate under a CBA on a 'union worksite' but with individual negotiated contracts and are the source of their own need for a union. It's as contradictory of the ideology of a union as I've ever heard. In addition to the belief that union's purpose is to protect the common worker - hardly applies with an average salary of $2.4M USD - now i understand they use the union more as as players management tool, and that is what they need, but making use of labour laws highlights their own greed and IMO lack of negotiations in good faith or with any respect to their 'partners' in the owner. Not saying I've enjoyed Gary shouting about a lockout in 4 days time, but ... damn I just want a season and any added BS is IMO just distancing the likelihood of that happening.
