BBKL Prospect Game
Re: BBKL Prospect Game
Shiv they haven't done anything yet... Larsson was a healthy scratch throughout the playoffs, and iirc in the finals, Hubs hasn't touched NHL ice yet. No doubt they are good prospects, but at this stage, are they not still prospects?
RNH = Sick, as expect of the #1 overall, 50-60 points is solid.
Landeskog = more scoring then most expected right away, expectations shattered. Nothing about him looked like a rookie
Couturier = was sold as an NHL ready prospect ready to handle a shut down C role, Jordan Staal style he did that, but 27 points didn't exceed what I thought he could do.
Larsson struggled
and the remaining 5 guys haven't done anything yet... it's solid that you think they'll be awesome, but Hamilton, as good as he looks in the OHL - is still playing in the OHL. We don't know yet if that's a solid top 10, or if it's the 3 guys who've already made the leap; could just be 5 of them that end up solid.

Re: BBKL Prospect Game
52 pts in 62 games is pretty unreal, especially with edmonton being a weaker team, it really gears him to look like he'll be easily over a ppg when he's developed, which is exceeding expectations. Landeskog already being named captain, calder, insane rookie season. and Couturier showed a lot of offensive potential when given opportunity, but absolutely thrived in a shut down role. Defenders at 18 should never be expected to fill a top 4 role, and i'm not too shocked he became a healthy scratch. It takes a couple years to really give dmen a solid projection. That whole top 10 of 2011 looks pretty top notch though.Nick wroteCOLONShiv they haven't done anything yet... Re: BBKL Prospect Game
Nick, the fact that after 1 year the top 10 seems to be well ahead of almost every class around them says a lot. You are making the mistake of looking at them in isolation. Compare that draft to 2010 to 2009, to 2012. There has not been a draft with such a strong and deep top 10 in some time.
Re: BBKL Prospect Game
i was watching the niagara/kingston game the other night and i kid you not, the kingston colour guy said dougie hamilton is a sure-fire HOFer...like the NHL HOF.
i couldn't help but think to myself how this guy has a job. proclaiming kids NHL HOFers who haven't played above the major junior level lol.

Re: BBKL Prospect Game
on another note, if you haven't already, start watching some generals games this season. Biggs is on a tear already and i LOVE the way that team is put together. they played brampton the other night and literally every general dwarfed their brampton counterpart on the ice in terms of size and strength.

Re: BBKL Prospect Game
Also, If you doubt Huberdeau and Hamilton you are crazy. Huberdeau will be one of the best players in the NHL in a few years. Weiss begged FLA I not send him down. And Hamilton is going to be an elite second pairing if not better

Think me and you are the only ones who've caught the Gens this season and the only ones who value Lessio.
Also everyone needs to keep an eye on Michael Dal Colle this kid is gonna be real good in a couple years.
Re: BBKL Prospect Game
I still like the 2008 draft, top 10 are all making an NHL impact, and the rest of the first round is about to (if they haven't already) - and i think the next comparable, will be the 2013.
Re: BBKL Prospect Game
to be fair it has been 5 years since the 2008 draft the concensus minimum amount of time required to judge a draft class.Nick wroteCOLONI still like the 2008 draft, top 10 are all making an NHL impact, and the rest of the first round is about to (if they haven't already) - and i think the next comparable, will be the 2013.
Also FWIW the 2011 was never considered a weak at the top of the order but consider to of lacked depth.
2012 was considered a deep class but lacked a ton of high end players.
2013 is a class that is looking real impressive early on, should be exciting to see what follows.
Curtis Lazar to TML please and thank you.

Bjugstad has SO much more scoring and hands then Backes though! SO SO much more. In Nick I see a lot of fellow countryman Keith Tkachuk.
I know the 08 draft has had more time then the 11 draft, LOL... but some here are calling 6 of those top 10 a success before they've done anything, right now they are good prospects that haven't even had the chance to falter, let alone succeed.
Henrik Samuelsson reminds me of a mix of the Ruutu brothers.
Next up: Tanner Pearson

And Tkachuk is a real good comparison for Bjudstad.
I approve.

Lets let some of these kids play some games in the nhl before proclaiming that they are going to be one of the best.
Wow.

Was kinda my point as well Kyle, just seems too early to proclaim the draft as one of the best in *blah blah blah*...KapG wroteCOLONLets let some of these kids play some games in the nhl before proclaiming that they are going to be one of the best.

it takes 5 years to have an idea, 10 to have a good picture and true accuracy comes with hindsight, when many of the players begin to retire (15-20 years). A year after his draft Nik Lidstrom had yet to make an impact, maybe 2011 is hiding a comparable
Re: BBKL Prospect Game
Mark - his stick handling is SO unique, he's a big heel dragger and had incredible side-to-side puck skills. In some ways I see Getzlaf, but feel that isn't an accurate representation of what he'll be like to watch, Anaheim teammate Bobby Ryan might be the better option. Feel free to toss a better name out there, but I do believe Mark will be a high impact player within the next 3 seasons.bills09 wroteCOLON

I've seen Robak play over 100 games, I absolutely love the kid. He reminds me of Jay Bouwmeester with his elite skating, size and defensive acumen. Like Jaybo he has an offensive component to his game, but he lacks top notch decision making skills.

Re: BBKL Prospect Game
I'm a Biggs fan, but he has not been on a tear. In fact he has looked invisible in every game thus far, his skating looks worse than a year ago, and he is not crashing and banging down low, or even finishing his checks hard. His point totals look nice, but his play hasn't. Take the last game for example, he had three points, but wasn't even noticeable in the first two periods. His two goals in the third were the only times I even noticed him, and his assist was a joke, Jenner basically stole the puck from him, and went end to end to score.anton wroteCOLONon another note, if you haven't already, start watching some generals games this season.
