Burke fired

Post by Mike »

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie
Toronto Maple Leafs have apparently fired Brian Burke as general manager. Working on official confirmations.

I have a feeling Bell wants Lou and Burke said no.

Most interested to see how this affects Carlyle?

My brother was saying owners want lu and Burke didn't so he's gone. If that's the case. I'll be pretty upset....

If it's Bell throwing a hissy fit because Burke refused to trade for Lou I will be pissed. Wasn't that the problem with this team before Burke? The GM being a Puppet for the board?

The ONLY thing that makes sense, given the timing, is that ownership wants Luongo and Burke said "fuck that".

The ONLY reason the timing makes sense.

Either way, if this comes out to be a thing of management wanting or not wanting Luongo, and firing Burke because he opposed their stance, than management are interested in having nothing more than a puppet in front office. In which case, I am no longer interested in being a fan of this franchise.

Or the timing is new member of the board/chair/management not agreeing on approach to the existing GM - but wanted him in there for CBA negotiations.

Or Burke family issue, and MSLE is good enough to fire him to pay out his contract (versus quitting/retiring).

Or Owners & Burke disagree on spending targets, Burke may have advised the owners something on behalf of Gary, which the board now believes (1 day of BOG meeting???) to be inaccurate, perhaps an internal organizational issue that will never come public.

But it COULD be Lou related... no way do we have enough information to believe that is the 'only' reason.

Extreme emotional responses are hilarious though. But yes, let's have the suits decide if we are Leaf fans or not
