So how long is the NHL trade freeze due to the trade deadline?

How many weeks in a year can NHL teams not trade? Christmas break? All-star weekend? etc

For non-playoff teams you literally would have had a 6 day trade freeze. How many trades really happen during the NHL playoffs? The majority of trades in any given year happen at the trade-deadline, especially for sellers/contenders -- adding a little more emphasis on this aspect of the BBKL is not a bad thing.

With all that said - finding a way to do this, that doesn't make the trade-deadline inconsequential, and isn't a reward for non-playoff & play-off teams that lose, well thats a discussion I hope we continue to have.

I'm all for moving the trade deadline back, Nick. Let's do it up.

For a bunch of reasons, the consequences are worse.

And remember, this is a very unique year given the 48 game schedule.

It was a poorly judged decision to have it a week before our play-offs began, Hindsight is 20-20.

I'll say it again, consequences of having it earlier are much worse. Because you've decided it's bad doesn't mean it's true.

Would you rather 4-weeks before the BBKL playoffs? So we have a 6 week trade window in the season and 4 weeks w/o?
Than when you add in the details of fantasy GMing and already having to deal with injuries in a different manner than NHL GMs you add in the roster moves - it becomes a situation where there is too much information unknown.

What do we honestly miss the simulation of during the playoff-trade-freeze?

I'm all for promoting activity - but this period mirrors a silent time in the NHL, it adds focus to our trade-deadline, forces some tough decisions, and is a very short period of time if you can remove the goggles of 'what serves me best, right now, i think'. To continue this convo please move to a different thread.

As far as your actual post, following NHL rules, there was no point of a BBKL trade deadline this year, given the decision to put it the week before playoffs begin. My feeling is that the trade deadline should have consequence. There was none this year. It should be a time to make decisions, not have everything already be decided for you.

That said, yes. Shortened year. Hopefully next year there will be some meaning.

Lee, want to implement my Franchise earning system for BBKL? How do we get access to our history and standings from years past? I want to attach a franchise dollar value to each team. This of course starts from day one of BBKL.

Just a random number but say every franchise starts with 50,000,000

Win your regular season division get 1,000,000
Win your conference get 2,000,000
Win the presidents get 5,000,000
Make the playoffs one year you get 1,000,000
Win a round get 5,000,000
win a conference in playoffs get 7,000,000
win a bbkl championship get 20,000,000

just a fun idea i would like to do in the off season but since you are so bored maybe you would have some input? I think its a great idea and could be a way to give value to franchises. A measuring stick per say....

I believe you've mis-counted GP.

Complaining after a 1 GAA .947 SV% goalie win ? Seems silly :P

But yes, Weber was a machine last night - would be nice if he'd do that again this week.

I'd be fine with it moving forward but it's not something I'd support retroactive.

Dana Tyrell to AHL... cut from lineup obviously.

Also, Shea Weber showing why he's the Captian, Sid goes down, so he puts out a huge effort in game 1 to kickstart the playoffs. Story writes itself.

That is a pretty harsh statement. I feel the decision to put a trade lock on was made by people that did the exact same thing no? one non playoff team in the mix, just saying that it works both ways. Adding importance to a trade deadline is a very weak argument in my opinion. Trades in the NHL are allowed during this time period and thus we should be granted the same right.

This lock is a Scott Smith like move. I was all for trading when I was in the playoffs every round and am all for it now. It promotes activity, the only reason non playoff teams are on here right now is because it is close to trade deadline day in the real nhl. I for one know that with this trade lock, I will likely not even know who is in the final unless it is facey or bergs as I talk to them outside bbkl. There are minimal trades during the playoffs as it is an unwritten rule that you wait until after to keep the focus on the playoffs, BBKL is far different from that.

I do not see any legit reason to block trades other than the playoff teams feel left out and it takes focus off the playoffs. However it may take focus off BBKL playoffs, at least gm's are active and will still know who is left in them lol. I find although trades will be the most talked about aspect of bbkl, it is the only way to keep people interest at all during this time.

Just my opinion. Good luck to all those in the playoffs and see you guys on April 27th.

Ah forgot about Tyrell, if Rosehill doesn't play that's 4gp lost so it's down to 4...but then we have to see how much time Clitsome misses. Feel a little better about gp now....I have a chance now lol.

Don't forget Jagr prob not playing tonight for Boston who would have 2 more games remaining. Means a loss of 1 gp for Jagr.
