Agreed shep. We should have been attacking the entire third period. Every big lead that ever gets blown is usually a result of sitting back. Doesnt matter if its hockey, football or basketball. Very poor decision making by carlyle.

Although I entirely agree that they should have kept the pressure up, I also believe good teams know how to defend leads. It is a skill only developed through time and clearly one Toronto has not yet been able to learn. It is all about the learning curve and if Toronto keeps progressing this is something they will erase from their game with this harsh lesson. Ie. Boston blows a 3-0 series lead, next year wins the cup lol. Harsh lessons are the best teachers.

I also think part of the problem is you didn't get a save when you needed one. I don't blame Reimer for the goals but sometimes you need your goalie to make a big save at a key time, he did not do that last night. Rask made a number of key saves in the 3rd and OT, that you would not have blamed him on if they went in. He managed to make those saves and because of that, it allowed for the comeback. Again, I don't blame Reimer for any of the goals, I just think goalies that win find a way to get at least one of those.

As for Dion, I think I will leave that alone before getting a "what series/season/career did you watch" comment. I'll just say this is what I expect from him after the CGY playoff runs, or lack there of lol.

I'll have to admit though as much as I despise the leafs, I was routing for them come overtime. It was a horrible way to see any team lose a series. I think many of non leaf fans felt sick to their stomachs watching this one slip away. You just couldn't help feeling for the guys out there. Oh well though, just one year and the start of a few good ones for the leafs I think.

I figured I'd avoid this place for at least last night...crazy and amazing game to watch but I know where the majority of allegiences lie here. You watch enough hockey (and sports in general)...you see your team have amazing miracle comeback wins and you also see your team stub its toe or trip going over the finish line when it looked like a sure thing.

The one loss that I can best empathize with LeafNation is the Game 6 blown lead in L.A. in either 2000 or 2001. The Wings were without Yzerman and Shanahan each with a broken foot (both from shot blocks if I remember right) after winning the first two games of the series in Detroit. They lose a multiple goal 3rd period lead that could've forced a Game 7 back at the Joe. I happened to have bought a ticket for that game the morning of Game 6. It was sophomore year of college...I remember watching that horror show unfold from my one-room efficiency on campus. Staples Center for years was a house of horrors and a young Eric Belanger and Adam Deadmarsh were Red Wing killers...especially Deadmarsh going back to his Avs days.

I definitely agree about good teams knowing how to defend leads. Leafs probably could have done it, but they do that stupid collapse in their own end. It's not how you defend a lead. When you have a goalie with poor rebound control, the last thing you want is shots from the outside with traffic in front of your net (which you create by collapsing) and getting scramble after scramble.

Reimer arguably stole games 5 and 6 so I'll give him a pass on the 5 goals in game 7, even though it would have been nice if he made a key save or controlled the rebounds specifically leading to goals last night.

It was definitely a learning series as it was most of the team's first playoff game/series. Most people didn't think they had a chance going into the series nor after they were down 3-1. However, they took Boston to Game 7 OT (even after blowing a 3 goal lead 10minutes left in the 3rd).

Now that it's all worn off, while I'm still disappointed, they exceeded my expectations going into the playoffs. They fought hard and looked like the better team in arguably 5 of the games. They deserved a better fate in Game 4. The team as a whole showed that Boston can no longer man-handle them game in and game out. Kessel looked great and looks to have that whole thing behind him now.

The atmosphere at the Square was unbelievable. And it just died after that tie up goal.

Somehow managed to get right behind the main section even though I showed up at 5:45. A security guard told us to go around the line to the front, and we did. Haha.

i just wish it hadn't ended the way it did because now no one will remember that point. i'd have rather lost game 6 or got blown out in game 7.

Obviously, you guys will have other playoff runs in the future but a single loss can still sting just because it's a game that could've have gone the other way. It's obviously different when it's a deciding game instead of let's say that was only Game 2 of the series...you can recover from that.

A season-ending loss like this stings because you're next game is until October. You'd almost rather lose like the Capitals where there's legitimate closure...you trailed the entire game and it wasn't even close rather than leading most of the way and lost the lead at the end and you even could've salvaged the game in OT.

Just gotta say this...no idea why carlyle kept running phaneuf out there. The guy was clearly either out of gas or fucking hurt for the last period. Ughhhhh this is just awful. Not sure how we blow that lead. Almost comical.

Phaneuf was clearly playing hurt, he couldn't make a three foot pass last night, and looked to be favoring his shoulder.
