Yeah you want to talk shunned you should talk about Therrien....worst in the East to 2nd in the East in one season is no mean feat.

I tend to agree with most of this statement.Bruyns wroteCOLONI remember it being discussed on TSN during the intermission last night too if I recall correclty. Also enjoyed Duthie introducing the panel as "3 prominent hockey analysts" in light of the Gawker article on Ford.
I also can't believe people could think Carlyle was shunned or overlooked or whatever. Therrien in MTL was more deserving and I dislike MTL more than any other team and can admit that. I thought Carlyle did a terrible job of personnel management, Gardiner and Grabovski having a great 1st round further reinforced how badly he mismanaged them and he has driven another quality FW in MacArthur out of town although he isn't that important to the Leafs future.
IMO the Leafs made the playoffs in spite of Carlyle not because of him. They rode a high PDO and remarkable goaltending to the playoffs and were severely outplayed and outshot down the stretch as Randy continued to dress McLaren and Orr nightly while sitting Gardiner and relegating Grabovski to low minutes while inflating Bozak's value by continually playing him with our best wingers.
As much as i liked Randy and his defensive system, he didn't use some of our players overly wisely. I'd hope the play of Grabo and Gardiner (in the playoffs) really sticks in his mind, they were 2 of our better players.
Re: Leafs Future (summer)
I think I will have to learn to like him since I dont think he is going anywhere judging by the vibe I got from the press conference. It will be real disappointing if we lose Eakins to another organization though.
I liked the accountability he instilled in his players and think he had a positive impact on Phil's two way game and JVR's net front presence. I just felt like certain players namely Mclaren, Orr, Frazer, Holzer and to a lesser degree Kostka and Bozak could do no wrong in his eyes and were given a much longer leash than others.

Here are a couple of good articles dissecting Bozak's value for the Bozak fans out there. Hard to argue with the numbers and besides watching games and thinking he isn't that good these provide some context for why he shouldnt get a big contract.

In reference to Bozak playing with Kessel, i had to good laugh at this one:
There's no chemistry there. If anything, there is biology, in the respect that Bozak is in a parasitic relationship with Kessel.

I was absolutely shocked when I didn't see his name ... I thought for sure he would win the damn thing. LAME.Chuck Norris wroteCOLONYeah you want to talk shunned you should talk about Therrien....worst in the East to 2nd in the East in one season is no mean feat.

Don't get me wrong, a guy like MacLean worked magic this year with key injuries all year long and still managing to get his team to the post season. That being said Therrien should have been at least a top 3 nominee...Tony wroteCOLONI was absolutely shocked when I didn't see his name ... I thought for sure he would win the damn thing. I think Therrien should have been there over Joel Quenneville .
Paul MacLean should win regardless, just saying.

I like Carlyle, and what he has done for the Leafs this season, but each one of those criticisms is a valid, and something I have voiced myself throughout the season.Bruyns wroteCOLONI remember it being discussed on TSN during the intermission last night too if I recall correclty. As for PDO, you aren't going to get an accurate measure over 48 games. PDO takes multiple seasons to stabilize towards the norm, it also doesn't provide an adequate proxy for shot quality which makes it dubious at best.

Re: Leafs Future (summer)
I have no interest in re-signing Tyler Bozak, he is going to get more than he deserves, and outside of face-offs does not provide tremendous value. Tyler Bozak is mediocre defensively, and offensively considering his ESTOI/PPTOI and quality of line-mates. I also dislike that Bozak takes time away from Kadri and Grabovski, both of whom are better players, and deserve more minutes, offensive zone starts, and higher quality line-mates.SuperMario wroteCOLONWe can - under almost 95% of circumstances - not let Bozak walk. The only situation in which I say no to him is 5M+ which I don't think he needs. We need to give him 3.5 ish (Kyle Turris is a good comparable here).
1. He is amazing at Faceoffs
2. He is a great equalizer vs teams with great Cs - in that we don't need a huge #1 C with Bozak (I mean we do but we can do damage still. Without Bozak - this becomes a huge challenge)
Now if we land a player like Weiss, the picture changes a little.
In a realistic scenario: We land 1F + 1-2D and that is our off season. Keep this roster in tact.
If that 1F is Clarkson + that 1D can provide us with stability on the backend, we will be ready to go into next season. I doubt we see a lot of turnover this year.
I really hope Bozak signs for 3.5-4.
My ideal off-season includes making a bid for Stephen Weiss. He is better defensively and offensively than Tyler Bozak, and should come at a similar cap hit.

Weiss and clarkson for me please,

Re: Leafs Future (summer)
Clarkson yes. Weiss I want to make sure he's still the same player as he was 3 years ago. Maybe other options/trade out there.
I still want us to signs bought out Lou. Biggest difference between us and a longer run.

I watch ALOT of Stephen Weiss, and his best season was far and away last year, not three years ago.Nick wroteCOLONClarkson yes. Weiss I want to make sure he's still the same player as he was 3 years ago. Maybe other options/trade out there.

Re: Leafs Future (summer)
This is all talking in the air - which us Leaf fans tend to do often.
IF we get Weiss (or a similar player better than Bozak), then Bozak is expendable. IF.
Until then Bozak is extremely valuable to the leafs.

The Leafs have two better centerman, and 5M that can be allocated more efficiently. There is nothing insane about it really...SuperMario wroteCOLONYou're insane.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONBozak is expendable without Weiss...
