I don't think there is any way Weber is left off of the team, he has no problems moving around the ice, is easily our best defenesive dman.

i disagree on both accounts.

I think Weber is a beast, but i'm not sure he makes it.

Crazy IMO.

Also, the 5 guys that Canada sent to the press conference is a pretty good sign IMO: Nash, Bergeron, Weber, Lou & Sid. Probably C/A/A in that group.

very likely yes,

4 of those 5 were on my list. Not sold that Weber will put on a show at camp - hope he proves me wrong.

JayBo
Subban
Doughty
PieT

disagree with the bolded. Some of those names might be prominent fixtures on future teams but I don't see them on this years. Ladd is most likely to make it out of those imo. I do agree with couture, I think he takes Richards spot on that 4th line W. I don't think there is any way Weber, Doughty and Keith are not on the team, with Seabrook, Jaybo and Letang as my favourites to round out the top 6. Jaybo doesn't make our north American ice squad by any means but is a great asset for the big ice game. I think forwards wise you chose to many speed guys and not enough of the "200 foot players" that Babcock said was his number one requirement. That alone dismisses Hall and Duchene imo but might also help a guy like Ladd out. He has proven in his Chicago days that he can play the checking role, he and couture will be fighting it out for that final forwards spot imo.

By the way can I just say how big of a joke the Norris Trophy is. Subban was viewed as the best defensemen in the league last year but isn't even close to a lock for this national team? How is that? Letang was in the top 3 but also isn't on even close to every list of those to go. Just shows me how out of touch the writers who vote actually are.

Response to shook;

I don't actually think hall makes it, but he's what they were talking about, fast and shifty with great hockey iq.

Duchene I think makes it, probably 4th liner.

Don't think you'll see big joe make it.

Lucic is a wildcard, ladd will make it over him as the 2way player imo, but lucic is fast as hell for being 240, that might entice the canadian staff enough to bring him along.

It's a weird balance, board plays and hits are no-where near as common, speed is needed becaues of the space however the read of the play is at least as important.

Lucic could be epic, one just wonders if he's not PIMS waiting to happen, and a write your own punchline regarding team selection if we have a foot-speed issue. Even though he's not slow for his size, he's not exactly a player that screams high hockey IQ or the ability to make up for a positional lapse - great two way NHL winger though. Tough call. Not shocking, but this could easily be a team of Bruins & Hawks, sprinkle in 3x LAK and penguins, 6 spots left... Weber/Nash/Lou + whoever else... Stamkos/MSL & Jaybo

Kunitz - Crosby - Sharp
MSL - Toews - Stamkos
Marchand - Bergeron - Lucic
Nash - Richards- Carter
Couture/Giroux as extra

Keith - Seabrook
Letang - DD
JayBo - Weber

PieT/Subban as extra

Lou + Crawford

I really think hall should make the team from what I seem of him last year.

I personally think a MSL - Giroux - Stamkos line would be pretty epic. All excellent skaters, MSL & Giroux have hockey IQ through the roof and Stamkos has as much game breaking ability as anyone on our team. MSL is accustom to playing with other very high skill players, that in itself is a skill, Stamkos already produced with Giroux and excessivly with Giroux.

Our team is going to be insanely skilled no matter how we build it, however I'm still against the idea of selecting guys that at their PEAK at top line players, when we'd be leaving behind others who's normal play is top line, and cna elevate to super-stardom and elite. IE selecting Ladd when Benn watches on TV (perhaps drunk at a bar, but my point stands) - ditto on Hall, Perry, Sharp, Richards, etc.

didn't Giroux say he wasn't going?

or was that made up by someone on here? something about just getting in NHL shape and his priority was the flyers?

Didn't go to orientation camp - conflicted with finger rehab stuff which is his focus, not that he's not going to Sochi. TSN Panel (notably bobby mac) still considered him a lock.

shep said it. Don't know his source, but like facey said, most still feel he makes it. If he isn't 100% committed though, I don't want him. Hopefully it is just the media making a story out of nothing vs there actually being some truth to Giroux not wanting to go.

Thornton didn't make the camp either (family ilness) and Price opted out of some meetings and team talk stuff for personal reasons (going on his honey-moon if my math adds up).

Middle of summer in a shortened off-season... injuries, life, an short notice all add up. Crosby looks jacked compared to some of the others (Bergeron -> who i am guessing has not been able to train), Nash and the Staals looking super lean. Getz notably balder.

Disagree. Hes one of the best options with the toolkit he posseses. I don't think his age should be held against him
