The Toronto Marlies - Discussion

Post by The BBKL Insider »

Does anyone ever go to their games, i read an article this morning (which i'll try to find and post here) that says Spott has this team un-organized and players either playing above or below what they should be.

He's had MacWilliams scractched for a lot of the season - which is surprising cause he was a standout at camp. He has Biggs playing a 4th line role, and he's giving top mins to Liles and taking it from the kids.

Does someone have a breakdown on whats going on?

I'd be interested in that article. I thought they were doing OK since they didn't have many top prospects or AHL veterans like Zigomanis and Aucoin this season and are 1st in their division at 5-3. MacWilliam has also played 7 of 8 games same as Percy. Blacker has been a healthy scratch for all but one game this season though.

The Marlies forward group has looked out of sync. McKegg has looked good and so has Abbott, but even then the line seemed lacked chemistry.

The offense really seems to take a hit without the likes of Smith in the lineup (Ashton to a lesser extent given he's only been here for 2 games - but I think he'll produce if he's around with the Marlies long enough). Abbott looks strong, but after that there's not much offensive punch yet. Some questioned the Marlies ability to score this year and I think it shows when they miss a few guys to call-ups. At the same time, they aren't even 10 games into the season so the transition for some from juniors and the chemistry that needs to be built isn't quite there yet.

A good sign your forwards aren't generating enough offense is by the shot totals. The veterans/more mature players seem to be doing fine, but the youth I think need to take a bit more charge. Ross looks a bit snake bitten given his shot total (16 shots/6 games) vs. goal totals (0 goals, 0 points). While other players depended on to produce more like McKegg (7 shots through 7 game), and D'Amigo (3 shots through 7 games) need to bring it a bit more. D'Amigo hasn't been given much offensive assignment, but for a guy who's produced well in the past I think he can do more. He's had well over a 100 shots in defensive roles in seasons past, so as a more seasoned player he needs to step up a bit more IMO.
that's a scourting report from John-Eric Iannicello's page - where i found the original article..

he goes on to say Biggs is playing a 4th line role and has looked good in a defenisve role but hasn't been able to find an offensive game yet, etc..

On Tyler Biggs:
He's playing a defensive role. See's special teams on the PK, but overall he's been average. Nothing really noteworthy.

same guy, i think he works for THN.
