Re: Week 14
Been running into some hot teams as of late. Already have 12 points which would be good for 2nd overall this week so far and Bergey whose offence has been struggling this season wakes up and has 12 too.
At least Liles being traded to the Canes should get him regular playing time now.

Re: Week 14
Have to disagree. In a 30 team league, look through the rosters and see how many people have positions not being filled due to injuries, scratches etc. That statement may apply to how your team is built and the quality of your players but it does not apply to the majority. People can say what they want about 2nd and 3rd round picks but numbers dont lie. the odds of one of those picks being used on a player that actually plays more than 1 game in the NHL is ridiculously low. If multiple teams have players sitting on there bench collecting stats than that is clearly leaving holes for other teams as there are only so many players actually playing in the league to go around a 30 team fantasy league. Players that are playing and producing at that, are worth WAY more than some of these picks. Now, taking a gamble and trading for a prospect who has some upside is always a gamble but it may be worth it. I would rather let other people do there homework and trade for their assets that i can track development and make my own decisions on. For example i took a gamble when i traded away Spurgeon for Jeff Shultz and Codi Ceci. I thought i was burned hard after Shultz got waived but there is hope now that it looks like Ceci is up to stay and producing so it is turning out to be a relatively fair deal in the end. Maybe i am alone in this thinking but i just consider a guy who has played in the NHL in another level as compared to any pick that is not a first. When you say wasting assets on those players, i disagree. 1 hit and .5 shtoi is better than having a hole because a team has no depth. If you have the capability to fill that hole from injuries scratches etc with a warm body that actually plays in the NHL its a no brainer.KapG wroteCOLONYah but trading for these players is a waste of assets. Unless its a late pick or somethingCAM wroteCOLONJust like that gem i got of FA for TB. Jean Philipe Cote. Kid is living the dream and he is being awesome for stats. Hes active for me this week.
Re: Week 14
There you go Shiv. I will be stuck with the shitty goaltending stats as Svedberg was recalled and there he sits on my bench.

And sometimes you get lucky with a guy like Antoine Roussel.CAM wroteCOLONHave to disagree. Re: Week 14
I see both sides of the coin here. An NHL player is more valuable than a pick who never makes the NHL, but at the same time if you are trying to improve your team trading a 2nd round pick when there are countless examples of players who go on to successful NHL careers taken in that round for a 31 year old D like Cote or a similar asset that isn't likely to have a big impact is bad asset management IMO. If your team is so weak that journeyman players with no upside are worth trading for then you probably will never compete with the stronger teams unless you have a wealth of prospects and picks to hopefully take over for those plugs in the future. It would make more sense to me for bottom teams to hope to get lucky and draft a star than plug holes with shitty players that won't make them better in the long run. Unless a team is looking like they won't make the GP limit it would be hard to advocate trading decent picks for middling talent with bleak NHL futures.CAM wroteCOLONHave to disagree. Re: Week 14
Listen douchebag ^^^, I am not specifically talking about Cote, I am referring to the old discussion about roster players vs picks.
You have some valid points Matt. Yes first round picks have value, after that, total crapshoot. We use to have a link to the odds posted in here, i'll see if i can find it. It would be really interesting within BBKL alone to have each team go through there draft picks by round and see who has actually played 1 game or 10 games etc in the NHL. 25% success rate for 2nd rounders is not very good. 1 in 4 chance that your drafted player actually has a career.
Very eye opening numbers:

Re: Week 14
I agree Cam and in other keeper leagues over the years I always trade all my picks away to GMs who completely over value them. Unfortunately this league lacks GMs who think every draft pick will be a good player and trades roster guys for them so it's almost at the point where picks are becoming undervalued it seems.
The only point I was making was if your team is weak and you don't have a lot of talented prospects in the pipe line the only viable option to turn things around would be to hope luck is on your side in the draft rather than trade your picks for players that won't turn you into a contender.

Re: Week 14
The fine line between what a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick should be valued at is varying for sure. It does come down to personal preference and individual team needs. That is why i disagreed with the blanket statement that trading for such players is a waste of assets. For a competitive team who gets injuries or scratches that statement is completely untrue. For a team like yours, I can agree that it may not be good management to acquire such players unless forced due to gp.
