Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
I think yes, there is really no advantage or disadvantage gained here, if the playoff team makes the best offer they and the non-playoff team can agree in principle to the deal and post at the end of the playoffs or when they are eliminated; otherwise the non-playoff teams can post their deal. Not a big issue at all IMO.
Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
why different rules for non-playoff and playoffs? NHL does not create such a distinction.

Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
And the NHL has free agency and no waiver draft etc etc. sometimes we need to realize this is a fantasy league and not the NHL.
Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
I agree, not everything mirrors to fantasy very well.
We shouldn't punish teams for making the playoffs. Why would we do that? Not only is it stupid to sell to a smaller market, it also takes attention away from what should be at least part of anyone's goal in being part of this league...
No posting a trade for anyone. Understanding that in this circumstance it doesn't make sense to mirror the NHL's rules (where trades for all are allowed, just not eligible for playoffs), and appreciating that having teams do a rush of trading during playoffs, inevitably lengthens the summer and eventual slow period.
If we have a rush of trading for all 30 teams, starting at the same time, we'd actually shorten our summer slow period.

Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
Who is being punished was the point of my post? If you are in the playoffs, and make the best offer I'm sure you will land the player you're after. If the GM decides they want to make a trade earlier its likely because that is the best offer they have recieved...

Allowing group A to post trades during playoffs and not allowing group B to, IMO, is punishing B.

Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
And by the looks of the poll it looks like the majority of BBKL believes that there is no issue in discussing or posting trades during the playoffs. I really can't see how waiting to post a deal is a punishment, I think most of the GM's here are trustworthy enough that if they agree to a deal in principle the playoff team can trust them to stick to the deal for 2 weeks or whatever the period might be.

Yes - becuase it keeps them active
No - because the other half of the league can't.
Why is that the dichotomy ?
Why not allow everyone to trade?
Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
Kinda defeats the purpose of a deadline
Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
Last year was the slowest offseason yet. maybe the 4.5 weeks of teams not playing + not being able to trade contributed to that, maybe it didn't. I personally think it did as I know personally I lost interest for a few months this summer.
I really don't see how it punishes the playoff guys. They are still allowed to talk trades. The year I made it to the finals (non playoff teams were allowed to trade) I had three trades ready to post once eliminated. That was more then most, not named shiv, made in that entire period.
I think if anything, it benefits the playoff teams as guys will sign on more frequently to see posted trades and in turn check out playoff threads. Activity in general is low in the offseason but with allowed trading there is less lull. 6 weeks trade deadline + 4.5/5 weeks depending on final is actually a pretty long time. Teams are active here during the real nhl playoffs, again draft day and then again on FA day. The Lull usually occurs after those days but not allowing trading creates another lull during our playoff time when we should strive to have it at it's most active point.
Anyways my final two cents, sick as fuck, don't want to keep focusing my energy on this haha.

Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
So allow playoff teams to trade as well, but not process trades until they are eliminated.
Re: Should non playoff teams be allowed to trade
This isn't about letting one group of players trade and another not trade.

The wives and babies are just cover ups.

Depends how it's implemented. Not Eligible for playoffs is a transferable rule from the NHL.Tony wroteCOLONKinda defeats the purpose of a deadline

once the playoffs start, all non-playoff teams can trade again. I think that's how we do it here, which seems to make sense?
