I think the NHL has a deadline, then no one can trade

once the playoffs start, all non-playoff teams can trade again. I think that's how we do it here, which seems to make sense?
That is not the NHL rules.

Guys get a copy of the CBA if you want to talk about what the NHL does. I've said it previous years, and in this thread. the NHL trade deadline is an eligibility deadline, not a trade freeze.

shooker wroteCOLONLast year was the slowest offseason yet. maybe the 4.5 weeks of teams not playing + not being able to trade contributed to that, maybe it didn't. I personally think it did as I know personally I lost interest for a few months this summer.

I really don't see how it punishes the playoff guys. They are still allowed to talk trades. The year I made it to the finals (non playoff teams were allowed to trade) I had three trades ready to post once eliminated. That was more then most, not named shiv, made in that entire period.

I think if anything, it benefits the playoff teams as guys will sign on more frequently to see posted trades and in turn check out playoff threads. Activity in general is low in the offseason but with allowed trading there is less lull. 6 weeks trade deadline + 4.5/5 weeks depending on final is actually a pretty long time. Teams are active here during the real nhl playoffs, again draft day and then again on FA day. The Lull usually occurs after those days but not allowing trading creates another lull during our playoff time when we should strive to have it at it's most active point.

Anyways my final two cents, sick as fuck, don't want to keep focusing my energy on this haha.
Hear hear! I couldnt have said this better myself...

So allow everyone to trade, but no deals are processed until after the playoffs. Why pussy-foot around it when that is what's being supported.

I meant allowing playoffs teams to trade makes the deadline pointless. League activity is the most important thing to me ... sort of dumb handcuffing non-playoff teams.

I said that like 3 posts above yours.

The goal is not to get one up on another person in a different situation. Trade to your hearts content. We need a trade deadline, but then when playoffs start.. trades have no bearing on the playoffs. They are just another way to retain interest in the league during a time when non playoff teams don't have much going on.

This is a nice thought but it doesn't work. Whenever trades can't be "posted" most people don't make trades.

Playoff teams should not be allowed till playoffs are over. But who cares if non-playoff teams post trades? Why is this a big deal?

+1 like last year when everyone took a vacation during the playoffs.

If you mean posted and just not process I am fine with that but at that point what difference is there.

I didn't say don't post. BBKL and our Spreadsheet can remain up to date, but I prefer to have proper record keeping instead of multi-trade deals agreed to and partially posted.

Everyone can trade (in practice even as it stands). Non-playoff teams can post and process trades, however playoff teams cannot do either.

I suggest we allow everyone to trade ( as per current practice), and post the trades. However none a process on CBS until after the playoffs. So after Week 25, the rosters would match (again). I believe this will be more in line with what the majority already practice, what they want, and allow for more accurate trades/records. It also aligns more closely with the NHL rules (not the reason to do it, but a little positive add).

Processed as in.. you can't trade for Crosby for your 2nd round playoff match up. You can post.. but you can't use him.

Hell.. create a "post season trading" forum to post deals in, then delete them out and post back to the main forums for tracking purposes.

I thought this was implied? If there is a trade-deadline, any trades made by non-playoff teams would not take effect till after the playoffs. Lol if they could acquire guys and use them, the trade-deadline would be meaningless.

But yea, this is what I want anyways. So get it done CC! I think we have a lot of people agreeing on this.

As mentioned previously, this would generate more interest in the playoffs, not less. More people would be logging in, checking forums during the playoffs. Then, playoffs start in the NHL and we can discuss those... probably a small lull waiting for the draft to start then DRAFT TIME!!

It is, but sometimes you need to state the obvious to get a point across. There was some confusion in what was being asked.

I don't see an issue with non playoff teams posting and processing trades.

Playoff teams cannot process as that would affect their CBS lineup for the following week.

Meaning trades between playoff and non playoff teams cannot be processed until that team is gone from the playoffs.

Keep in mind that we are probably dropping CBS as well.

Hard to believe this all started with a little comment I made in the League Announcements thread.

And lee that was what I wanted, I was just unsure as to what nick meant by not being processed. As long as it can be posted, I could give two fucks about CBS.

It's been brewing for a long time, Shook.

It comes up every year, this has just been the first year with some actual clarification. I think the road block has always been the assumption that playoff teams couldn't trade at all under this proposition. Not post, not process, etc. Now we are communicating, breaking down that road block.

Trade. Be Merry. Don't process if you are in the playoffs.

Don't flatter yourself Shooker, trade deadline rules in discussion since trade deadline date has been in discussion :) hahaha

For trade deadline to matter to non-playoff teams rosters, they shouldn't be processed for them either. goalies/skater gp etc...
