hmm seems like the key to the west playoff race is trying to finish top 3 in the conference to get a relatively easier 1st round matchup. #4 vs #5 will be a tough match up no matter who the teams are..

Under the new format, the #2 and #3 seeds from each division face each other regardless of how 3-6 are seeded. That is, P2 vs P3 and C2 vs C3.

i assume for the first round its..
EAST:
A1 vs WC1/WC2
M1 vs WC1/WC2
A2 vs A3
M2 vs M3
WEST:
P1 vs WC1/WC2
C1 vs WC1/WC2
P2 vs P3
C2 vs C3
Not sure what happens in the following rounds though? I assume its based on total points irregardless of division?

Matchup breakdown:
The division leader in each conference with the most points plays the wild card team with the fewest points.
The division leader with the second highest amount of points plays the wild card team with the most points
3 & 4 – the second and third seeds in each division face one another in the first round.

The winners of each series will play for berths in the Conference Championship series.
The two divisional champions in each conference will then play in the conference finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

This is something I don't understand yet lol. I've tried looking online but most people talk about it generically. I'm hoping it gets revealed on TV closer to our playoffs and one of us notices.bcool wroteCOLONoh i see. what happens in the 2nd round then? I am under the impression that there is a Pacific division "bracket" and a Central Division "bracket". This is how I think it would work:
Pacific 1 vs Wilcard 1 (1A) \
...........................Round 2: Winner of 1A vs Winner of 1B (2A) \
Pacific 2 vs Pacific 3 (1B) /.................................................\
...................................................................................Conference Finals: Winner of 2A vs Winner of 2B
Central 1 vs Wilcard 2 (1C) \................................................/
...........................Round 2: Winner of 1C vs Winner of 1D (2B) /
Central 2 vs Central (1D) /
I am sure about how Round 1 works. But I am not sure if Round 2 is a bracket system like above or if there is re-seeding.

I've seen this and honestly it's too hokey pokey for me. I haven't found anything that blatantly says what happens after round 1.Nick wroteCOLONhttp://bleacherreport.com/articles/1567 ... off-format

Re: ** 13/14 REGULAR SEASON STANDINGS ** [Updated Till: Week
So basically if you are wildcard 1 and you end up playing the division winner of Pacific for example. You are now considered to be in the "Pacific Bracket" even though you may not be in the Pacific division?

Same with me shiv. I can't find anything. Would lovveeee some clarification lol.SuperMario wroteCOLONI've seen this and honestly it's too hokey pokey for me. I haven't found anything that blatantly says what happens after round 1.Nick wroteCOLONhttp://bleacherreport.com/articles/1567 ... off-format

That's where my questions comes from as well...
I'm with Shiv, super confusing in terms of how it actually plays out.
round 1 I get, top vs wildcard (1), 2nd versus higher wildcard. followed by the 2x2 divisional games.
Stanley cup round is easy as well, winner of east versus winner of west.
However the middle rounds I'm a little lost.
----------------- currently Round 1:
Atlantic 1: TOR vs NYR
Atlantic 2: TBL vs BOS (so lame.. we are #2 & #3 in east.. #3 and #4 in league)
Metro 1: PIT vs MTL
Metro 2: WSH vs NYI
Let's say, TOR, MTL, BOS & NYI win... how do we re-seat? I read it as MTL = metro division championship contender
----------------- what I think it means:
Atlantic Championship: TOR vs BOS
Metro Championship: MTL vs NYI
follow by the Eastern Conference Championship, which could easily be all Atlantic , TOR vs MTL
---------------------------------------------------- BUT what if NYR and MTL each win?
Atlantic Championship: NYR vs BOS
Metro Championship: MTL vs NYI
would that not be properly re-organized by division as NYR vs NYI and BOS vs MTL ?

This is how I understand it for Round 2. But I have not been able to find something that says that unequivocally from a reputable source.bcool wroteCOLONSo basically if you are wildcard 1 and you end up playing the division winner of Pacific for example. A good spot to check would be the new CBA. I tried that earlier this year but couldn't find it. It's on NHL.com if anyone wants to take a look.
Re: ** 13/14 REGULAR SEASON STANDINGS ** [Updated Till: Week
http://www.nhlpa.com/inside-nhlpa/colle ... -agreement for those that do not have it. However there is no talk of playoff-format in the CBA.
I'd wager that is not something that is negotiated by the NHLPA, although it likely requires their approval for changes.

Sounds like no re-adjustment to me.
If a wild-card team wins in the first round, it will stay in the same division for the second round, even if it crossed over.
