Kessel + Lapierre
Re: Kessel + Lapierre
Right, I mean. Trade me your top line 18+min scorer for my 10-16min grinder, his hits and low cap are how you build a good BBKL team.
Re: Kessel + Lapierre
Or a 38 year old washed up player? I can't lose!

Someone who reliably puts up high end goals, assists, points, shots on goal, special team points and has a better chance at gwg, pushes any team closer towards contending. Only trouble is their cap, because guys that score take up more cap.

Not correct, or how i value players at all.Nick wroteCOLONScoring is now the most under-rated stat in the BBKL

I value scoring a ton, i just value a 60 point player who makes 4-5mil, who adds 2mins of shtoi per game, 2 hits, and a blocked shot more valuable than a guy who scores a PPG.
I'm not interested in the Derek mackinze's, Taylor Pyatts, etc....i want the entire package. Now i'm not suggesting those guys can't be important, they just aren't the types of guys i add to a lineup unless they are injury fill-ins.
But as shiv pointed out, it's hard to run an active player like Vanek, Gaborik, etc... who makes 7-8 mil and does little but score. I believe you even took a shot at Gaborik a few weeks back saying he was useless outside of scoring and you'd never touch him...and i dont believe, i know you said this.

No one is saying Matt Cooke > Kessel. But Oshie at 4.175 vs Kessel at 8.25 next year?
Re: Kessel + Lapierre
Oshie is a big big hockey player... Just simply watch him on the ice in a real game. His presence and stability makes him a shit tier version of malkin. More h2h but way less scoring and similar speed

Re: Kessel + Lapierre
interesting to see each of our views on certain types of players!
Re: Kessel + Lapierre
I didn't touch gaborik, like I said at the time, because he's always injured, and if don't think he'll keep his production up - honestly a player I do not like. Since I said that he has gotten hurt and stopped scoring. So extreme.
I do believe scoring is under rated.
Guy with 20pts vs a guy with 12, if the guys with 12 has 30min shtoi and 20 more hits he will be called a bet term h2h player by many here... Regardless of the actual category count.
40g45a with 30stpts Kessel? Easily worth 8mill next year - not a player I'd go after, not a huge fan of his ( as snooker and kapg mentioned somewhere, try building with players ya like, or at least not with ones ya dislike).
Oshie is having either a career year, or a breakout year. However he is regularly hurt, and never produced like this before. Over the next 4 seasons I'd have much more faith in Kessel repeating his # than oshie doing so.

Re: Kessel + Lapierre
how do you not like Kessel?
we'd be so fucked without him.

Re: Kessel + Lapierre
Don't like how he plays the game. Not calling him unskilled, I know he's a dynamic player, the key to our scoring, and sometimes an awesome guy to watch. But I don't think he battles, back checks, or shows great teams-man-ship very consistently. Just not a favourite player, despite being the best player on the team.

Re: Kessel + Lapierre
i think kessel is different than other snipers
he actually shows that he cares about the team, rather than the name on his back. But that's my view on Kessel, i think he's bought into Randy's game better than most of us thought he would.

Re: Kessel + Lapierre
You definitely need a mix of both types of players. However, you are more likely to win a H2H matchup with a team full of periph guys as opposed to a team full of scorers. Periphs players will produce periphs every game. Scorers don't produce every game. In the end though, you need a team that hits every category to have the best chance of winning. That includes the scoring categories, and the elite ones are the hardest to obtain because they are so rare.
Re: Kessel + Lapierre
Those exact reasons is what made him trade bait in Boston(along with upcoming raise) Same with Seguin. Agree or disagree, they have a brand that they market and stick too and a GM thats not scared to shake it up.Nick wroteCOLONDon't like how he plays the game. Re: Kessel + Lapierre
He is an amazing sniper, no doubt about it. I would say he probably has one of the best if not the best, snap-wrist shots in the league.
Re: Kessel + Lapierre
Semin has the best snap-wrist shot in the league. I've got a full arsenal.

As of current, Phil Kessel has more goals than Sidney Crosby, and more pts than Alex Ovechkin.
