All I am going to say is that Bernier > Reimer in pretty much all aspects of goaltending.brockbirds wroteCOLONAlso in the time that Bernier was hurt, Remier put up an .894 SV% (6 games). When Bernier got back to save the season, he responded with an .897 SV% (4.5 games). Find it hard to believe Reimer is the major issue here. If the team is constructed to require top-5 league goaltending to win anything, thats the issue that needs to be addressed, not moving the back-up who carried the team the year before with basically the same numbers that Bernier has now.

Bring in Jagr on a 1 year contract.KapG wroteCOLONI wouldnt mind seeing an A on Clarkson. Not sure he could be our Captain though as all people would want to talk about is the contract.
I agree with your assessment that he comes across as the leader type
make him C.
Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
I wouldn't be opposed to signing Jagr to a one year. You can't make him captain though for just the season though IMO.The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONBring in Jagr on a 1 year contract.KapG wroteCOLONI wouldnt mind seeing an A on Clarkson. I actually think Dion would be a far better player if he wore an A, or nothing at all. Seems like the stress of the game itself gets to him more, which screws up his play.
Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
It might help him. The bigger problem with Phaneuf, mind you this is only my opinion, is that he seems out of shape and lacks footspeed and mobility now a days. Why? Im not sure. He could be hurt? Perhaps age is catching up with him? Or perhaps it has something to do with the Belza training regimen he has our players on. You know, that bicylce training bullshit. The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONI think something needs to be done with the C.KapG wroteCOLONI wouldn't be opposed to signing Jagr to a one year. Play him 17-18 minutes a night no PK and 2nd unit PP and he would be OK. The problem? 7 years X 7million per lol

I think the C will all depend on leafs management next season. If Lewiski cleans house (nonis + Caryle + all coaching staff) you'll see a new captain. If not, Dion will continue to be the C.
Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
Arian, is he still hacking darts? Fucking seems like it out there lol.
Btw, you have some great pieces on your team there buddy. Impressed with some of the stats you are putting up. Lehner needs that starting job. Hes so good.

Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
Unless we bring in someone like a mike Richards or someone similar I don't see a better captain on this current roster.
2nd best option is Joffrey Lupul
2nd best option is Joffrey Lupul
Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
+1 on Lupul.
Only negative is that he is injured quite often.

Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
If he hacks darts, then id say its amazing the amt of minutes he plays lol
Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
It is definitely shitty.
IMO take a good pause, heartbreaking end to the season, right now isn't the time to make long-term decisions.
I personally think our problem is two fold. 1) we are lost in our own zone, whether that is the players or the system is up for debate.
2) our best players were not able to lead us out of a long slump, this is not the first time that has happened. The guys who appeared to be doing the work on the ice for the slump to end are the kids & Lupul.
Kessel is our best player, and is paid 8.25M for his offensive production, however he brings nothing else to the table.
Dion is our captain, but he is most useful at non 22+ toi
None of our C's are game-changers
Even with all that said, I still believe we're a better team than CBJ, WSH, NJD & comparable to NYR aside from Lundqvist.
My emotion-filled response right now - blow it up. Especially the guys who were getting paid to produce & should have been a stabilizing core. Dion, Kessel, Gunner, Bozak.
I know we're stuck with Clarkson, IMO Lupul was a leader when times were shitty, & I love Bernier's body language in the net so he's the furthest person from the blame IMO.
It may be messed up, but I'd be talking with Carolina about the Staal brothers.

Steve Simmons article from the Sun
http://www.ottawasun.com/2014/04/08/map ... s-it-looks
(maple leafs roster is as bad as it looks)
Excerpt -
Before the Olympics, the Leafs had one of the best, if not the best power plays in the NHL. You want a stat — Toronto’s two best offensive players, Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk do not have a single power-play point since Feb. 1.
No points. Zero. Nada. Nothing. How is that even possible?
(I did not know this, if it is true)

It's one of his better articles actually. It's been obvious for a while that Randy doesn't trust anyone outside of the top line + dion. It's why he overplays them, it's why they burnt out.
However, it's really hard to point fingers at anyone, rather point it at the entire group of guys. Either way, it was a bad season that began with promise. I guess we look to the draft, UFA, trades and next season now, as leaf fans.
Re: Leafs Season Over - Thoughts?
a culture of losing envelopes this team. the players have changed. the coaches have changed. the GM has changed. ownership has changed. the losing has not.
it's the pressure, media, and spotlight of being in toronto. nobody within the organization at any level is allowed to simply focus on hockey - to much extra bullshit happening constantly. they lose a couple games and the media/city writes the rest of the script - losing is the expectation from top to bottom now and the players just follow along.
