Chad Johnson - GGP
Chad Johnson - GGP
I would like to see what the market is like for his services. He will be a great backup goalie to Halak and with Halak more than likely to get injured he is a great guy to fill in. Cap hit of 1.3 mil. PM if you have any interest. And just as a starting point, a 2nd round pick won't cut it.

I also thought i should add that I always offer a backup to the owner of the starter first, but in this case Dave has already told me that he will be moving Halak. Someone could potentially land a system.

Just to keep this simple and not have to deal with the drama, any 2015 1st can have him. Not sure if someone has that or not but it would make things simpler.

for a back up goalie fuck
Re: Chad Johnson - GGP
Lol in a league that thinks draft picks are god i guess that is the response when in reality the chance that even a first rounder plays 10 NHL games is pretty slim. Did you not witness all the backup goalie moves last season. Going rate was 1st by everyone or close to it.cliff11 wroteCOLONfor a back up goalie fuck
Re: Chad Johnson - GGP
Confusion around what a backup goalie is worth depends on what people think that goalie will become.
Started way way back with Bernier -> lots thought he would eventually be started in LAK, took over 3 years for him to be traded to TOR in the real NHL where he is now the 3/4 starter.
But real backups have never really had much market for them, aside from the team who has their high-value starter...
Make a trade that makes sense. Would I trade Ramo for a late 1st? nope - he has a legit chance to be more then a backup over the next 3 years - Hiller is a real starter, but has a history of sharing the crease. I think Anton make a great offer to Paul that could result in systems getting united.
If Marty signed would I be asking for a 1st ? probably not - he has no explainable future past the next contract.
Miller is tough to value as is Lack - weird situation in the crease in Vancouver... just like it was with Schneider/Lou --- doesn't change how good the goalie is, but does effect the trade market & what a GM feels like he should ask.
IMO (not that anyone asked), Chad Johnson is a backup... he's not a risk/potential to steal the crease from Halak. So he's worth GGP this year, and injury protection for whomever has Halak. Late 1st could make the deal easy, but that's not the only way to get a deal done.

Re: Chad Johnson - GGP
It is a very sticky topic. It is impossible, as Nick says, to throw all backups into one basket and say they all have the same value.
I traded Billy Khudobin last year for a late first and that was after i preached that the guy had skills and potential to be a starter. I could have kept him as he was exempt but i didnt want to handcuff him. Now Khudobin is most likely the starter in Carolina.
