Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Its a wonder how teams like BOS and DET can let their borderline prospects potentially walk because they are so deep, while the leafs, despite having far better drafting opportunities, can't even manage to have a 3rd/4th line in the show with anyone worth keeping around...

Actually, I don't even remember another top offensive defenseman being worse than Letang is on the powerplay.Fraser wroteCOLONThink Letang could really flourish with a change of scenery, this guy isn't just a product of the offensively gifted players on his team, rather I think he would better suited to be looked at as "the guy" to run a teams powerplay.

Newly acquired forward Linden Vey has accepted his qualifying offer by the Vancouver Canucks, according to Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun.
Vey reportedly inked a one-year deal worth $735,000 at the NHL
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
That's a committed move by Vancouver... he's in the show or on waivers! Gotta think highly of the kid given what they paid.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
He was waiver eligible no matter what type of contract he signed

i'm pretty sure it's a 2 way deal, that said, he would still have to clear waivers and i can't think he'll hit waivers after paying a mid 2nd rd for him. They just aren't going to toss away a decent prospect then put vey on waivers.

Yeah 1 way doesn't have anything to do with waivers, its about the amount he gets paid to play in the AHL.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Yup, 2-way contracts are misleading if you're thinking they've got anything to do with being a candidate to be waived or sent down. There plenty of guys that are no longer exempt from waivers that get the 2-way deal because most likely, they'll spend most of the season in the AHL. On the off change they are called up, then you pay them their NHL rate.
I think the waiver status is similar to what we do...has to do with age and games played. There also just guys that have AHL contracts and aren't even property of the parent team. The guys in the AHL on 2-way deals at least have an NHL salary in the event they're called up.
I think you give a guy a 1-way deal with the expectation they'll stay up with the big club. You don't want to pay a guy $750K to be a minor leaguer but it does happen. You also have the cases of guys like Redden and Tootoo who get buried in the AHL but the salary is still the same since these are established NHLers on a typical 1-way deal.

Ribeiro to preds @ 1.05 for 1 yr... Dirttt cheap
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Unbelievable value signing. Hard to believe that there weren't better offers. Have to think the opportunity to be a 1st line center had to play a part.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Damn that has to hurt Jarnkrok
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Wonder if the Preds do that if Fisher is healthy.

Neal-Ribiero-Smith is gonna be a nice line to watch in Nashville, no more defense-first system there haha.
