that sounds like no more work for all the GMs, and like we'd have a place we can reference.

I'll bring up in CC. I think we're at the point that we need to maintain or decrease the existing workload, not increase it - this seems to add no more work to the main core of GMs.
GMs would simply need to specify which players have contracts that 'slide' at roster submissions, and then during the season point out when they start using (hence, when they 'sign') a player that was not counted towards their 50 limit, be him
- a player with no NHL contract nor NHL games at roster submission
- a player already under NHL contract at roster submission but eligible for the slide (< 20yrs and 11 gp)

that means basically no added work for anyone (and actually, saves the CC from monitoring in-season signings and their implications)

So are we going to do this?

We've only been asking for how long now lol. I don't see why it's not implemented if we are striving for parity to NHL rules.

for BBKL purposes: even if the player is signed to a NHL contract, when his contract is sliding it doesn't count towards the limit of contracts allowed (50)

P.S. a mod might as well rename this thread

No.

Our slide rule is a little more lenient than the actual NHL rule. I was thinking you'd have to add the contract if the player plays 10 games but you can stash a player away for the whole year if you want if you don't have the room for their contract.

You have to make a decision on a player that might break camp with a team but might only play the 9 games and go back to junior. Anyone near or at or even 50 contracts, those are the teams that have to make decisions on guys.

Ekblad will probably play all year with Florida so I'll want to use him. Bennett might make the Flames but may only play 9 and go back to Kingston. Do I choose to just slide him from the start or just deal with his limited play and then he's going to be a scratch for me the rest of the season? I've got guys like Ryan Graves and Jeremy Gregoire that can slide and probably won't see NHL action this year...they'll probably be my two choices to slide this year.

Just like NHL GMs can make their decision whether keeping the guy up or not beyond his 9th game, so BBKL GMs are entitled to make their own decision whether they want to play the guy or not.

You can call it more lenient, but if you look at it from another standpoint, you may as well consider it stricter since you lose the player's sliding benefit for the season the 1st game you use the player; i.e. you don't have the option to use him for 9 games and then send him down while still sliding like NHL teams.

Not sure why we have these hard and fast rules. Hopefully it can be reviewed for next year but happy it's here at all.

It's a trickier decision on who to slide just because submission day (Sunday) is before opening night (Wednesday) and before final cuts had been made for NHL teams. Bennett might actually start on my slide list on Sunday because I need to see what happens with Bissonnette and Barch and Bryzgalov...all on PTO and haven't been cut. By Wednesday, I'll know the roster situations with every team and I might consider adding Bennett back on the active roster albeit it might be just for 9 games.
