Schedule matchups Idea
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
I guess the schedules would literally just mirror the sequence of the nhl's. Easy. Inputting would take forever

Re: Schedule matchups Idea
We could split inputting into sets of weeks for the league admins to do. People could volunteer to have temporary commissioner powers to help out if needed (I would for sure).

Smells like a power grab, "Aryan".

Compared to the time required to and our current schedule this would be easy.

Ya I would switch teams with Paul in they process . Ya Nick, you've been doing the scheduling as long as I can remember and I'm sure it's a pain in the ass.

Re: Schedule matchups Idea
If we play 21 or 22 weeks in the regular season and we want to match the NHL...maybe play 4 games in a week?
I assume we're talking wins/losses in the matchups and no longer each category?
It's a bold idea if we can pull it off.

Re: Schedule matchups Idea
We can still use categories the way we do now....that doesn't have to change...unless you wanted it to.
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
I'd hope we at least still use category pts and not just win/loss zzzzzz
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
With 82 matches why would we want more then just win/tie/loss per opponent? A week would have 4x16x2 = 128points.... LOL
4x2 = 8 points a week is a lot as it stands
4x2 = 8 points a week is a lot as it stands
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
82 is not divisible by 4 though.
I guess you should play 5 opponents for 2 weeks, and only 4 in the other 18. Leaving more weeks than we have now for the playoffs, which is good I think.

Re: Schedule matchups Idea
For short weeks don't have them setup to full magnitude.
20 weeks x4
1 (opening?) week x 2
20 weeks x4
1 (opening?) week x 2
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
I wish we could simply get rid of really short weeks and merge them with the previous/following one.
But if that's not possible, than yeah, multiple the damage by 2 is better than by 4

The reason using each category for a win is important for 2 reasons:Nick wroteCOLONWith 82 matches why would we want more then just win/tie/loss per opponent? A week would have 4x16x2 = 128points.... LOL

1. There is a bigger difference between teams in bbkl than in the nhl. If we made it simply W/L there could be a group of teams that win less than 10 matchups and even 1 or 2 that may win less than 5. This would leave gm's disinterested and you would have higher turnover in the league. Allowing them to steal single categories gives lower teams something to care for.
2. It's fun to strategize around different categories. When that option is taken away it again creates disinterest. I wouldn't even check bbkl in a week if I were up against Steve; however, if I have a strategic team to take a few points off him it would still be fun to cheer those categories.
I'm all for the 82 matchup season but only if we keep current scoring.

Re: Schedule matchups Idea
I've already shown that is a false perception, this scoring system magnifies differences, greatly exaggerates the gap between teams and is a less accurate representation of how the teams are actually performing.
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
So you think Dallas has a chance of getting any points in a W/L system? and in a W/L system there is a very real chance for a team like LA to go 80-2, 81-1, 82-0. He would thus take like 95% of his possible points. In this system if the average taken against him is 6 of 32 points each week then he is only getting 80% of possible points. The vice-versa is true for Dallas, who can now get a few points each week thanks to goaltending.
Plus, stop trying to kill fun! As a team that is likely going to be utter crap the next 2 years i know i would become very disinterested in a simple W/L scenario.

Re: Schedule matchups Idea
I'll most likely lose this week
Re: Schedule matchups Idea
It doesn't do what you think it does. % of points doesnt add anything to the conversation or expand on a difference between the two formats.Matthew wroteCOLONSo you think Dallas has a chance of getting any points in a W/L system? and in a W/L system there is a very real chance for a team like LA to go 80-2, 81-1, 82-0. Comparing LAK to Dallas doesn't actually paint a good picture of what the best scoring measure for league is. But in the extremes you can find some obvious examples. I've said this every year since the league has started, don't really want to do it agai,n however it drives me nuts to have such incorrect statements be made in defence of the status quo.
When someone beats TO it should be worth a win, however in our current system if you beat Toronto 8 to 7 you got 17points to his 15; effectively no change given that he regularly wins weeks By 25+ points , over a two week period (or longer) his total will look like undeafted, thus exaggerating the gap even in a short window --- but even more importantly we need to remember that this scoring measure is to compare all thirty teams a Cross not just the two teams face each other so having weeks, ahem, wins that are worth more than other wins is a problem especially when beating Dallas by 20 points is a whole order a mag different than squeaking out a win versus LA, relative to TO in the across League comparison you actually lost Ground.
Our current measure is like the American census. it's horribly inaccurate but has face validity, literally counting each person by household instead of a statistical sample which would result in a more accurate measure of the number of people -- logic be damned!
TO: goals 15
dAL: 1
Car: 8
Chi:7
Chi Beating Dallas in goals doesn't mean you beat CAR in goals, (as that is not compared in week) yet our system is giving points for just that ( it's an each category win/loss comparison, not an accurate indication of how many goals were scored. Anyways, I really didn't mean to type even half of this.
It's amazing to me how much support this system has, but having actually lectured stats classes and seen the understanding of even 3rd year university students who are having it shoved down their throat, I shouldn't be amazed.
To be clear it doesn't bother me because it is stats error, it bothers me because it's missing some really interesting parts of our league. we would have a much better play offs and more interesting standings especially for the majority of the league (between the ranks of under LA and TO and above whoever , Dallas? and Philly ? ) for the other 26 team it really would be a better comparison and lead to a lot more interesting weeks AND be a better measure of how your team is doing compared to the rest of the league.
Stopping...hahha. I would support the Multi game per week schedule, regardless of a change in win/loss comparisons.
