NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
True. And as a Canucks fan, I would be more interested in having a rivalry with Seattle than Edm and Cgy anyways. Always felt like a 3rd wheel rivalry when clearly the real rivalry is Cgy/Edm.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
awh man Seattle would be a huge rivalry or VAN.
Really, though Bettman should ditch these new divs cause they suck anyway. who cares doesn't have to be exactly eight teams per div. Would look way better just like 10-11-11 or something like that.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Actually, if we traded those guys we would be too easy. We're already a terrible team, take out those 4 and have to rely on Gardiner to play 22+ minutes? Yikes. We'd be as bad as Buffalo, except we're already too far ahead to even get McDavid.Nick wroteCOLONI would love to see us admit that this core won't see us win a cup.
Trade Phaneuf, Kessel, Bozak, Franson
Admit that to win, your #1 C should be a priority, and the Top Dman needs to have elite skating in the game today. Focus on those skills sets.
Not like we'd be too easy or too soft - still have the grit...
Leaf fans cannot have anything good. If they trade Kessel, it will be one of the biggest mistakes we make in the next 10 years. Leafs switch to a defensive system and cannot score for the life of them. But sure, let's trade our only reliable goal-scorer, that'll learn'em!
Here is an idea, why not try and acquire players that complement our best player? Nah, that's crazy. Might as well move the player with the 2nd most points in the last 4 years.
Seriously, I didn't see the Blackhawks trying to move Patrick Kane. He has Jonathan Toews there to help him out. Evgeni Malkin can be one of the lazier players on nights he's not feeling it, so the Pens signed him to a 9mil+ per season contract. Don't even get me started on the constant rumours I hear about the Caps trying to move Ovechkin and the Oilers shipping Hall away for anything they can get... oh wait. You mean these teams actually like they goal scorers?
I can already see it "LOL STOOPID SHEP WHAT HAVE THE OILERS AND CAPS WON!??!!" you're missing the point. You can teach a player defence, you cannot teach a player have 6 straight 30 goal seasons.

i agree with shep, i also think trading dion would be a mistake.
We need to find him some help, and i dont think Franson is the answer.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
The problem is, anybody that should be traded have terrible contracts nobody would want, thus we get no value for.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
The issue with Dion is you've paid and played him like a top pairing dman; which he is not. He's either a good #3 or a crappy #2 at best but you guys have him as a #1. Bad contracts are starting to catch up with you guys again...The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONi agree with shep, i also think trading dion would be a mistake.

Contracts that have no value (untradable):Chuck Norris wroteCOLONThe issue with Dion is you've paid and played him like a top pairing dman; which he is not. Clarkson
Lupul (maybe)
Robidas
i think all other contracts are moveable.
Dion would be a great player on a good team. Think of him in a system like Det or St Louis. Hard to play those top mins on a crappy team. heck, he even has the highest +/- on the team (i believe)

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I agree some of your big contracts are still very much moveable. My point was outside of moving your big contract guys (which either no one wants - aka Robidas; or you'd rather not move - Kessel) you can't make any moves because you're right up against the ceiling. It makes it hard for you guys to do much of anything without moving someone I am sure you'd much rather keep. You guys need to make a few deals like Bergevin did swapping bad contracts like when we acquired Gonchar and Allen whose deals end this year, while giving up equally bad contracts who have 2 years left. Doesn't help you this year but boy will it really help come next. The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONContracts that have no value (untradable):Chuck Norris wroteCOLONThe issue with Dion is you've paid and played him like a top pairing dman; which he is not. Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
i think you'll see a few players dumped for mid picks. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lupul traded for something like a 4th and the leafs take back salary on a short term contract.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Prediction:
Entire core stays the same throughout trsde deadline period with the exception of franson to a contender for picks
Stuart Percy takes franson spot and finishes season at 9th place east
