If you're a playoff team and your goalie all of a sudden no longer plays since an NHL team trades for a new starter I can see why we would allow the GM the chance to add that goaltender rather than saying oh well you now have no starter and you now have no chance to win, too bad for you.
Cite the time this ever happened. I highly doubt teams with a competitive team BBKL-wise lose their starter. And if it has happened, that's your fault for not recognizing your goaltending isn't adequate, in my opinion
Last season with Halak to the Capitals. Holtby isn't a bad goaltender and why would the GM be expected to recognize he is inadequate and trade for Halak when there was no way of knowing that would happen.

Was halak's owner a good team?

Doesn't matter, just proving the point it can easily happen since it did as recently as last season.

There are a lot of hurdles to making that system work. So many that I really don't see it happening.
i have thought about that as well. it's just too late for that as people have drafted goalie prospects over the years and given up value to get the goalies they have now.

Yeah, such a system would mean an end to drafting goalies in our league. It might also mean losing out in a position player for goaltender trade in the real NHL.

My example would be:

I own Carolina.
You ( not you ) own Toronto.

In the NHL, Cam Ward is traded to Toronto for James Reimer. Easy enough to complete in the BBKL.
The real challenge would be when Cam Ward is traded for Cody Franson. Cam Ward goes to Toronto. In a response move, James Reimer is traded to Edmonton. Carolina calls up Drew McIntrye. Edmonton does whatever with one of their goaltenders ( sends one down, trades someone, etc).

That could be solved easily enough just by saying you own whoever is in the system. One day you own James Reimer, the next you don't.

Ya but if only happens to teams that are out of the playoffs (which is more likely that a shitty system goes after a starter) then it doesn't impact playoffs. I like what Matt said in the other post. Make the exception available.

New perspectives often identify flaws in a system where cronies get stuck in their ways. Lol joking on calling you all cronies cause the league is great but seriously new perspectives/opinions are often how things improve.

Americans not using the metric system is the greatest example of doing things wrong for a long time just because it's how you've always done it.

Definitely some truth to what you're saying. Sometimes change isn't necessary though IMO.

Haha ya I agree. I obviously haven't experienced it. Just makes sense for me to have to make a decision re: playoff push with some added uncertainty. Increases the risk-reward excitement.

Stagnating is the worst thing that can happen to great civilizations. It's one of the reasons the US is starting to fal behind other progressive thinking countries.

New blood leads to new ideas on how to improve the league.

Discussion isn't always whining. The more discussion the better IMO. Even the simplest person can have an idea that blossoms into something amazing.

Thing is tho brothers... Ur speaking generally for a extremely minute group of individuals... Pit Mike... U dont even trsde that much and same with Lee. As I I briefly mentioned in the other thread man ur really not that active in the trsde fronts to justify 'Oh I can't make a clear direction with this late ass deadline' excuse is unfortunately mostly bullshit. Ur really gonna for example say ok I got 3 wks til end of season and it's deadline now (early like u want it apparently). Ur really gonna fuckin tear down 12 players on ur roster and go all 1994 born players cuz ur on the cusp of playoff spot and u feel it's better off to 'rebuild'? Cmon man lol its hard to pump out 1 trsde per week generally as it is. Man u hardly make deals during weeks 1-9 to begin with like what less than 10

Ur arguing for practicality but the hard truth is its even more impractical to 'accommodate' gms to "have some planning room" before play off time just so they can make 2 or 3 damn trades to 'load up' or 'tear it down' are all just pointless drag of anticipation for nothing. Trust me ur not gonna be that much more prepared with early deadline lol. Half the fuckers on here are cheap asshole that troll with their flashy assets anyway

Trading during the off season is a lot easier than trading in season.

This is trying to make a rule that covers everyone, Paul. It doesn't pick and choose. Singling lee out as a non-trader and then saying he shouldn't be able to discuss league rules for this reason doesn't make sense. Rules are created for the good of the entire league to make it a better experience.

I don't understand though. I can still make a trade with say, Paul. We just can't process it until the playoffs are done. What's wrong with that?

No. U dont even know what I'm saying bro gtfo matthew
I'm not singling Lee out. Altho it is funny coming from a guy afraid of getting r*ped in trade talks... But anyway I am simply stating my OWN opinion... Lol... Early deadline isn't a stupid idea... But I highly doubt knowing the characteristics of most gms, those earlier 4 week deadline shit won't hardly make interesting period of wheeling and dealing. It will just be a fuckin block bumping fest for 3 weeks with nothing going on.. Like it is already now..

So ljke... Dont kid urself if u think u will be able to turn ur team around one direction or another by having early deadline... Lol...

Maybe if you offered some good players, Paul, I might be more likely to make a trade.

No one wants Scott Gomez.
