who do you play if the playoffs started today and how do you hope it plays out over the next week or 2.

Example: do you want the team you are suppose to play lose the next 2 weeks so you play someone else?


for me if the playoffs started today i get Shep, in 2 weeks time it will most likely be one of shep or Anton.

Just happy to be in the playoffs.

Year one of team-restructure meant selling off a lot of vets - Dats, Vanek, MSL, Vrbata, Sedin, Crawford, etc. and replacing with younger talent - ROR, MoJo, Boedker, Dillon, Mason, Mrazek, Kuemper. Wont help me win this year, but am happy to give this franchise a future.

Whatever happens this year is a bonus for me.

the joke is, as #1 seed instead of getting the worse Western playoff team you'll get a team from the Central because of the idiotic seeding system we use.

Yeah I'm not sure who thought making the best divisional teams instead of the best teams making the playoffs was a good idea.

Core basis of reasoning behind that was simple - reward strong. Teams for being the strongest by matching with a joke slide-ins

Processes overall average matchup length/number of games required to end series become quicker. Everything in world is about efficiency. Otherwise in competitive standpoint of course it makes no sense 1 versing a fuckin 8th place team

Fact it, the new playoff system is much worse for BBKL than NHL, cause in the NHL the balance is such that you'll hardly have much better teams ending up seeded lower than weaker ones.
And standings are usually closer, whereas with this new seeding system in BBKL we have weeks in the latter part of the RS that are useless for some teams cause they will be blocked in that seed anyway.


I'm just going to copy&past my unheard gripes from last season:

as for the standings, i'm fine with the top 3 teams of each division to be granted a playoff spot no matter what, but having their seed protected on top of that seems retarded.

Why should a team like Montreal that has more pts than any team in the Metropolitan save for the Penguins (and could even top them) receive a worse seed than the Islanders and the Rangers?
I would understand reserving the seed of the division winner, but beyond that? really? i guess that's what the NHL uses? but even if that's the case i think taking away that block in determining the playoff seeds (not spots) would help fairness along with enhancing interest in the last few weeks as standings would be more dynamic.

In the West the situation is not much better, as i'll be rated lower than a team like PHX that will finish with 40 less pts than mine. This also screws the top 2 teams in the conference, as they will face a better opponent despite the fact they earned the right to face the 2 worse qualifiers in their conference.
Again, is that how it really works for the NHL? we should still move away from that next season.

But, I agree, the new seeding and placement is totally ridiculous.

why not taking the basic (NHL playoff format and qualification) and moving away from the absurd (the 'blocked' seeding)?
