I dunno. When your paycheck equals more than my entire life-long earnings, show up to work on time; Regardless of how shitty the team is. No sympathy here.anton wroteCOLONthe 14 people hovering over him with their recording devices asking the same stupid fucking question over and over again are also grown ups. that whole "interview" is such a pathetic sight, im genuinely embarrassed for all the media people involved.Matthew wroteCOLONBad Interview. But he made a mistake, and this is a 5 minute interview he has to do to rectify it. He is a grown up, this shouldnt affect his game.
breaking news: people are late sometimes. this is an issue a bunch of grown men should be able to get the fuck over.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Obviously this is an issue and has happened many times before. Coach wouldnt go to media if this was a first time thing.
Good post Scott. Agree 100%

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
The three prevailing philosophies of this generation are:Shoalzie wroteCOLONWe're in the "participation trophy" generation. God forbid if crush a kid's hopes and dreams because you don't have the stones to acknowledge someone is actually better than them. One of the greatest lessons I ever learned from my dad when I was playing little league baseball...no matter how good you think you are, there's always someone better. It's nature...the average child isn't the best at something and instead of lying to your kids and saying their shit doesn't stink...push them to become better and always strive to be better. We are capable of so much more if you dig deep enough.
To build a competitive person comes from learning how to overcome your weaknesses and how to improve and to not get fat and lazy and to eventually figure out how to best those in your competitive field...be it in school or sports or the workplace. I think the internal competition with yourself is as important as being competitive with others. Telling a kid their whole life that you're a snowflake and you're unique and special teaches them nothing about living in a world where you will get humbled and embarrassed. If you insulate them from reality...they won't know how to react when they run into actual conflict.
Minimalism - What is the least I can do while still reaching my goal.
Hedonism - If it feels good, do it.
Individualism - Survival of the fittest.
Kadri is not exempt from this as he is a just another human on earth; but people get upset as expectations are higher for those who have been given more in the world. Can't control leaf suck, but at least show up to frigging work on time with your seven figure salary.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Can't forget also teaching kids about accountability and how to own their mistakes and to learn from them instead of sweeping them under the rug. If you're a pro athlete making millions of dollars...you have accountability to yourself and to your team and to the fans to represent the organization that pays you that money. Others making excuses for you your whole life and not having people own up and feel the heat of criticism is part of character building.
I think what you see in Toronto is a group of immature players and Carlyle couldn't get from this group what he got out of this Leafs' team because they're made of weaker stuff. You can win with guys like Getzlaf and Perry and they had quality veteran leaders around them like Pronger and Niedermayer and Selanne. All you have to see is how good of a leader Getzlaf has become. I don't see any guys on that Leafs' team that can lead and inspire that team.

That's because we are overworked here in north america. I think Mike touched on the subject once a few weeks back.kimmer wroteCOLONBro in a way North America is weak sauce compared to euros in mental stability. We lead (can/usa) the world in workplace depression rate except for maybe Sweden. Those guys r super depressingMatthew wroteCOLONBad Interview. But he made a mistake, and this is a 5 minute interview he has to do to rectify it. He is a grown up, this shouldnt affect his game. Saying the media is the reason the leafs have sucked the past 10 years is just making an excuse. Like others have said, there are plenty of great teams across the sports that likely get it as bad as or worse than the Leafs, and bring home championships. There are Soccer teams in the World whose lives and families get threatened, and they manage to perform.

perhaps some of my generation...not all.Lee wroteCOLONYour generation raised their parents to be that way.dave1959 wroteCOLONIt starts in childhood kimmer. Kids are so weak-minded and entitled these days.
I raised my kids to be respectful of others and work hard for what you want and above all, don't expect life to be 'Fair" because it fucking isn't, and don't use it as an excuse.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Ya I'd say Azns are on another level in terms of overtime work lol but then ya theyre worse over there lol they committ suicides and stuff
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Yeah I get what you are saying. I'm just saying that the generation that came before blames the generation that came after while not realizing that they are the generation that raised us.
People have always thought the newest generation is weak, and blame it on the current generation of parents, while taking no responsibility for raising them.
With that said, I do hate the current generation of kids. Their music sucks and they can't make a mistake without getting a trophy for it.

That's the sentence there.Lee wroteCOLONThey can't make a mistake without getting a trophy for it.
I've never seen anything like it. I'm 33 now but to witness the current younger population (15-25) and the way the act is incredible. It's not a big deal to make a mistake if you apologize and fix it, but to need to make excuses and point blame at everyone else is embarrassing. I dont care about the pros and cons of each generation, we all have a faults, but teaching kids not to take responsiblity has become a joke. North America is raising a generation of takers and blamers.
She's gonna be a scary place in 30 years.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
well lol ya thats nothing new as well. thing with us is competiveness shoalzie speaks of is real. most of us growing up become immune to harsh criticisms and let-downs because of this. i cant say i agree with this either as this is just polar extreme opposite end of what N.A. has become. Theres gotta be a fine line and a happy medium. middle/highschool suicide rate is among highest in countries like south korea/japan/taiwan due to way too much compeition and unable to hold themselves together so how is such upbrining helping our kids grow?KapG wroteCOLONSome Asian parents run their household like Nazis (figure of speech before anyone jumps down my throat)kimmer wroteCOLONYa I'd say Azns are on another level in terms of overtime work lol but then ya theyre worse over there lol they committ suicides and stuff

The way Asian parents raise their kids is why they are quickly becoming a super power.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Well yah, gotta be moderation though IMO. Just look at all the suicide like Paul mentioned.Lee wroteCOLONThe way Asian parents raise their kids is why they are quickly becoming a super power.
Part of NAs problem is that a lot of parents and what not are coddling their children. Just look at sport now a days...
Come in last? That's OK, here's a trophy for participating and "doing your best". Get the fuck outta here with that shit .

Telling someone they are entitled to something is about the biggest disservice you can do to them.
