Waiver Exemption

Post by bills09 »

Why do we not use the Nhls model of 160 NHL gp or 5 years after first pro contract

Imo our current system is far to soft and we should look to model the nhls system

There has been talk of something like 100 gp or 25 years old.

In my opinion we should be mimicking the NHL wherever possible. So I would be in support of getting ourselves closer to that standard.

NHL doesn't use the system billy said - it has a 3 variable sliding scale.

What id like to see

18-20: All slide unless on Roster
20-25: Waiver exempt unless played 160+ NHL gp
25+ Requires Waivers

Bonuses are going to be a pain in the ass without capgeek.

The rules are based on when a guy first signs...something we'd need to dig up from the archives of CapGeek.

Here are the basics:

Another interesting rule I found while poking around is in regards to sending a guy down after they've been recalled. They only have to clear waivers again if they stay up with the NHL club for 10 games or 30 days. I've wondered about why certain guys can go back down to waivers after being called up...they've just not been up with the team long enough.

We do/did as far as is reasonable. including when a player signed in a 3 variable system becomes complicated.

I think we could lower the GP threshold, in part because we draw a line in the sand at roster submission.

Waiver Exempt starting goalies is a larger issue for us, IMO.

Yeah, isn't waiver exemption for goalies in the NHL between 60-80 games depending on age signed. I'm pretty sure it is less than skaters.

Our gp number isn't the issue as much as the age (28)

The issue for us is when they become " starters" & our gp lock is based on the roster submission

Perhaps do we make our count live?

Are there really that many guys 25+ with less than 125GP in this league?

I think there's ample evidence we went a little too liberal on the waiver exempt status. Let's tighten it a little in order to ensure that players who should be active, are in fact active. This goes back to the whole 30 teams issue.
