4-Game Goalie Week Rule

Post by Matthew »

Hey guys, these are just some options, and I'm not even sure if the first solution is possible on fantrax, or if the CC wants to do the work to deal with the issue every once in a while(although it would be rare). This is concerning the CBA, of course.

The is somewhat poorly written, and I hope you can understand what I am trying to say, if not, just ask. And these ideas may be stupid too, and if so, just say. But I figured I'd attempt to find some sort of resolution for our issues with the 4 game goalie week. If there are any other possible solutions or alternatives you can think of, let me know and I will add them to the list.

Thanks for listening. Here we go:

Solution #1: This solution imposes a 4-game limit where if 2 goalies from 2 different NHL systems combine to exceed the 4 game limit, the opponent of the offending team is obligated within 1 week to inform the CC which of the offending teams specific goalie games are to be disallowed. Thus, if the offending team goalies play 6 games, the opponent must choose the offending teams best two goalie games to be removed for the week.

Solution #2: This solution imposes a 4-game limit where if 2 goalies from 2 different NHL systems combine to exceed the 4 game limit, the opponent of the offending team is obligated within 1 week to inform the CC which of the 2 goaltenders should be made to sit on the bench for the week, losing that goaltenders stats.

However, the above 2 solution's will not apply in a specific case: If the 4 game total is exceeded by goalies of only 1 NHL goalie system as this cannot be helped.

The above 2 solutions have the advantages of not completely removing an offenders entire goalie week stats, while having a positive outcome for the opponent. Also, this should create more NHL goalie systems in BBKL as it becomes beneficial to own a goalie system as opposed to 2 starters or 2 backups.

:D Case #1: Anaheim starts only Devan Dubnyk (MIN). Devan Dubnyk plays 5 games in a week.
ALLOWED

:D Case #2: Anaheim starts Mike Smith (ARI) and Louis Domingue (ARI). Mike Smith plays 3 games. Louis Domingue plays 2 games.
ALLOWED

:D Case #3: Anaheim starts Mike Smith (ARI) and Devan Dubnyk (MIN). Mike Smith plays 3 games. Devan Dubnyk plays 2 games.
NOT ALLOWED
According to solution #1 the opponent of the offending team would choose 1 of the 5 games played to be removed from the weeks statistics.
According to solution #2 the opponent of the offending team would choose 1 of the 2 goalies to be put onto the bench for the week in which the offense took place, thus losing the full statistics for that goaltender.

:D Case #4 Anaheim starts Mike Smith (ARI) and Devan Dubnyk (MIN). Mike Smith plays 5 games. Devan Dubnyk plays 0 games.
ALLOWED

Solution #3: No weekly goaltender game limit for the regular season, and thus only the goalie season min. and max. would matter. In the playoffs, a team exceeding 4 games would have all goaltending stats for that week disallowed if the 4-game limit is exceeded.

Solution #4: Any team exceeding the 4-game limit in the regular season or playoffs would have all goaltending stats for that week disallowed.

SoluEtion #5: no weekly limit during the season. Use solution 1 or 2 during the playoffs.

Solution 3 is what I like.

Regular season goalie mins and maxes is enough to discourage goalie hoarding. And when it comes to the playoffs, you have to manage who's in your lineup to ensure you don't exceed 4. Pushes pople towards systems due to the playoffs, but its not an absolute necessity.

premise: if we are indeed going to discuss all sorts of issues at the same time like it's happening, having dedicated threads certainly helps. However, I still think we shouldn't cause not too many GMs will have the time or will to follow and contribute on most matters if that's the case.

I don't even know if that's possible. On fantrax you can remove players at certain points in the week without taking away all their stats, but taking away only one day, I don't know, and would complicate it anyway.

Inside the CC the proposal that seemed to have the most support was when 4 game starts are exceeded, all Wins and SO on the week are erased.

Personally, I'd rather erase all Wins and only eventual SO of the G with less starts, cause taking away both goalies' SO works as unnecessary punishment rather than as deterrent when you already have a more effective deterrent in place by erasing all the Wins.
There seems to be this thinking that GMs might take the risk on purpose to get 4 games, but with the deterrent in place GMs would do that only when confident their Gs would not exceed 4 starts, so when the risk doesn't appear to be there anyway.
But aside from the deterrent, sometimes two G of different systems get unforseen consecutive starts because of injuries even if one of them is a backup, putting that team over the limit even if the GM didn't take any risk at all.
