Question.

Are waiver picks penalized under the same format as draft picks for missed GP?

Or are they seen as insignificant enough to ignore?

They have not been impacted in the past.

Also what about additional compensation for coming in after New Year. I know they said they didn't think they did it last year but it is in the CBA and Scott's waiver thing mentions it doesn't reflect additional compensation

I brought this up when I came into the league last summer. My team had just finished 4th to last, so under that posted rule it looked like I was also due a extra pick. But It was removed from the rules long ago (that CBA is not up to date), going back to when Matt Bruyns joined at least, he said he received no additional compensation.

I think its a talking point to consider going into the books going forward. Especially when new GM's take over low standings teams stripped of their draft picks.

I think Mik's suggestion of adding a 2nd waiver round for the non-playoff teams is a strong suggestion as well.

We should do something similar to the CHL priority draft where teams can draft as many players as they want, but are not forced to select anyone after the first round. It goes in the same 1-30 fashion, but teams are skipped over when they declare they are done.

Sorry, was that too whingy for any of you?

Or just 2 full rounds. As a lesser team I don't want to be given an extra player where just the bottom 14 teams get another pick. I want my rebuild to be deserved when I become a good team. no easy shortcuts. And let's not have 10 waiver rounds. We aren't the chl.

We have free agency after the waiver draft anyway

What Mik brought up was there were many talented players left over after a single round of waiver draft last year. Which led to a flurry of first come first serve days where guys would get their FA pickups in. He questioned if that is the best way to do things, and I agree that I think we could do better than that.

yeah, first come first works during the season when one player at a time might become available here and there, but having many BBKL teams trying to sign 20 guys at the same time is retarded imo, especially when we can easily use a cleaner system that gives a bit of a benefit to bottom teams.

Be it a 2nd pick for bottom 10 or all non playoff teams, the main reason I didn't propose a full 2nd round was that in the past I've been the only one among CC/admins against shortening the Waiver Draft down to 1 single round.

Having only 14 picks in the 2nd also gives more of a benefit to non playoff teams than a full 2nd round cause other teams may have more interest in acquiring one of those picks if they don't have their own pick coming up later on. And that way a non playoff team could also grab the 45th BPA as a free agent instead of the 61st.

Anyway, I'd be fine with any solution that gives us at least 10 more picks beyond the 1st round, be it 10, 14 or 30 (full 2nd).

I think the reason that the 2nd was dropped, or at least the reason given to the non-CC members was that there typically isn't really a lot of quality left after the 1st round. Last year we did see a flurry of activity after the 1st round suggesting it was a stronger draft, and this year appears to be quite strong as well hence the call for more picks. I personally like Lee's idea where we have a 2nd or even a 3rd round and teams can simply bow out once they've had enough and allow the remaining teams to make picks, this would benefit the rebuilders and prevent the free agency chaos Mik is worried about, and would allow us to remain flexible depending on the amount of talent available in a given year.

Free agency is more than sufficient to pick up extra players u want outside 1st Rd Waiver

Sufficient yes but inefficient and messy, I believe is the point. Allow the 1st round waiver picks to be traded as they are now, but allow for a 2nd and 3rd round of the draft where teams can draft or bow out as they see fit. Gives rebulders a leg up and doesn't have us logging on at 12:01 AM to try and snag free agents the day after a single round waiver draft. It's an easy fix and there's no real downside so far as I can see.
