NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Daley is hot garbage, but Nich and a 1st is a lot
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I think at this stage Nich is likely a lot.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Ya and it's a recent article produced in June outlining that was the ballpark figure asking price last season I think.
At this point getting nich alone for dion id be content with but who knows how retarded dallas is. Jim nill is good shit tho

Lol, If that was even close to what was being offered, I cant believe for a second that Toronto would not accept that.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Dallas would be going full retard offering Nichushkin + 1st for Dion, let alone adding Daley.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I think Babs will give him a few chances on his squadbills09 wroteCOLONI think we keep Dion for now tbh
And then if he detects early that he just won't work out with his system, he will pull out his magic and convince Ken Holland that mantha + will be a good deal for dion for detroit

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
All depends on how Dion reacts when he gets the "C" taken away
If he shows he's a team player and will buy-in, he stays. But if the Nich+1st+ is any indication of his value, its hard to say no to that. Especialy when the team is a few years away from competing.

We don't want an oilers rebuild. You have to develop the prospects not throw them to the wolves. Dion is a good example of a hockey player in terms of fitness, training, community events, hard to play against & how to stand up for your teammates. That's the culture that we want to build - blaming everyone as the issues isn't the way forward, have to identify players with traits that we want to magnify.

i'm ok with dion coming back. i always liked him. On the flip side, after watching kessels play over the last 3 months made me think twice about him. I'd move him this summer.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I believe Shanny is going to trade a lot of the core group this year Nick ..Dion, Kessel, Bozak, Lups, JVR … i believe you will see at least 3 of those 5 gone if not more….. this core group IMO has major major leadership issues. How come every year the leafs go on a huge losing streak? why is that? Since the off season started for the leafs Shanny has fired 90% of all hockey staff… he completely gutted the staff why wouldn't he do the same with the players ? This "core" group doesn't know how to win and simply they aren't getting the job done, and IMO it starts with Dion.Nick wroteCOLONWe don't want an oilers rebuild. As goes for developing prospects Id say this season we did a way better job that the past…. the old days we would of had Nylander playing up with us all year and same with Brown…. I've heard from many of the leafs staff say that they are committed and wanting to develop the prospects the right way and I believe we will see that from here out.
I agree with you about the Edmonton comment and but we still have a couple of vets. Also the leafs are going to have a ton of cap space why not over pay for a couple of vets, like OVER OVER PAY( say like give Santo a one year contract at 5 million) … sign them for the year and trade them for picks at the deadline …
Also if I were the leafs id consider moving everyone on this roster besides Rielly.
just my thoughts
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
That seems too close to the Oiler rebuild for me. You gotta pick some guys who bridge the gap and are here for veteran presence while the team changes. That means we still need to field a team that plays hockey, is above the floor and trying to win.
If we go back to being easy to play against it's an uphill battle to get tough & take the game serious, every night- again.
I agree that we have to have a change of players in order to reach a change of culture. But our slumps line up with an injury to our starting goalie, some injured depth, & scoring going ice-cold. I don't think Dion is the source of our slumps, he continues to play to the best of his ability at 110% effort, fighting to show he's not okay with it; definitely not giving up on plays or taking nights off. That's the traits of Phill, Ty, some of our depth.
But with that said, if we can get a good return for Dion, I agree he;s gone. But if all we're doing is moving out his contract because it's perceived to be bad, well that just makes a bigger hole and makes us easier to play against, more likely to throw a prospect in before they are ready, and more likely to bring in some other vet that is so bad the kids won't follow his lead.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I agree - leadership is a big issue on this squad. Dion sucks but there really isn't anyone to pass it off to. I think they were hoping Clarkson would bring in a lot of it, but doesn't appear so. Team will be without a "C" for at least this year IMO.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Dion has zero respect around the league man two times this year the other team shot the puck at him and both times nothing happened. His teammates didn't stand up for him. IMO he's not a a Captain, he's not a guy you build around, but that being said Dion's a good number 2 d man, he can play top pairing but he needs to have a good partner.
He needs to go and I believe you will get a good return for him. Look at Perty with MTL he got a 6 year contract at 5.5 and at best he's a number three on that team. A team IMO will pay for something for Dion and it will be at the full contract. I can't wait to see him traded.

I agree with Cliff. There doesn't seem to be any effective leaders on the roster so ship the vets out and sign some new ones that management trusts to short term deals
