CAR/ARI - Vacation deal
Re: CAR/ARI - Vacation deal
I still think you get at least another 2 high end years out of Luongo. And I can remember him saying while he was in Vancouver ages ago that he was intending to play until he was "Hasek age" or something of the like.

Re: CAR/ARI - Vacation deal
A few years ago I would have agreed but it seems more and more like teams are going with younger goalies and cheaper cap hits, you see teams like ANA and DET succeeding without the expensive veteran goalie and it allows them to stack their forward and D cores, and there also just seems to be a crazy amount of goalies around anymore who are all similar in terms of talent. Not sure Bishop lands a much sweeter gig than he has been enjoying if he loses his job to Vasi. The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONThis is my theory as well.Matthew wroteCOLONI think it's fair without Wilson. You are in the same situation with Luo as bishop, except the danger is Luo retires and you have nothing, whereas bishop would just go to another team, and even that is prob not for 2 years.
Doesn't seem like cliff valued Bishop enough here IMO, he traded the better goalie and argubly the better player (younger, friendly cap hit). Bishop is a top 10 NHL goalie. If this Vis kid takes over in TB then Bishop is moved to another team and paul still has a 1A goalie and is still ahead IMO.
that's just my take, but by reading everyone's comments it seems like a fair deal.

Watch Bishop go to Florida to take over from Luongo in 2 years. It's not like Florida has much in their pipeline in terms of goalies. That'd be fitting here.

it's certainly a possibilityfoofnik wroteCOLONWatch Bishop go to Florida to take over from Luongo in 2 years. It's not like Florida has much in their pipeline in terms of goalies. That'd be fitting here.
Fla
SJS
NYI
BUF
PHI
that list could include at least 5 more teams. Lots of teams lack goalie depth and top end goalies. There will always be a market for an elite goalie like Bishop IMO. Again, this is an example of lots of guys putting too much stock into the teams prospects.

I think Halak and Neuvirth keep NYI off that list and Mason and Stolarz keepPHI off, depending on Niemi the Sharks could also be set for awhile, the rest who knows. The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONit's certainly a possibilityfoofnik wroteCOLONWatch Bishop go to Florida to take over from Luongo in 2 years. Edmonton, Calgary, Carolina, Arizona, St. Louis, Minnesota could all conceivably also be looking for a goalie over tge next couple seasons.

Re: CAR/ARI - Vacation deal
yup, any way you look at this there are teams that could use the services of a top 10 goalie like Bishop.
Re: CAR/ARI - Vacation deal
Niemi is going to free agency. I just hope he starts somewhere. For some reason SJ isn't confident with Stalock taking over... I think he's capable, but whatever.

If you would like to acquire future Sharks starter Dan Ellis he will be cheaper now than he will be after signing July 1.Tony wroteCOLONNiemi is going to free agency. I just hope he starts somewhere. For some reason SJ isn't confident with Stalock taking over... I think he's capable, but whatever.

If that happens I am no longer a fan.

James Reimer to the Sharks.
Re: CAR/ARI - Vacation deal
Might work. SJ market is the complete opposite of Toronto. They're soft to a fault... There's a reason guys like Thornton and Marleau don't want to leave. It's sickening at times...
