Richards had Oxy at the Canadian border. To me that's not a serious enough offence to terminate a contract and it's way too convenient that they were trying to buy him out. Much worse has been done by players without their contracts being terminated and this sets a dangerous precedent.

A 2nd seems like a lot to give up for a 34 year old who has slowed down a lot recently, especially when you already have a ton of depth at the position. Maybe they are just looking for more grit during the playoffs? A 2nd for a guy who will likely be their 6th/7th d-man.

They must be looking to move one of their other guys.

Hawks philosophy is simple...surrounding Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook with cap efficient players via the draft or free agency.

That being said, Hossa/Sharp should have been moved first.
