still a terrible contract imo.

if reports were true, Ducks got lucky.

Another bad day for the Bruins, it's like this Sweeney guy was hired by Neely under the simple promise he would get rid of the guys Neely didn't like.

CAM wroteCOLONI was upset at the Hamilton deal but i challenge you on your opinion of ruining a team when you consider what he came into and what he had to work with. Chiarelli made some huge mistakes and terrible signings in the end. I am starting to believe in CamSweeney. The moves are interesting thats for sure. I guess time will tell. How has he ruined the team, what should he have done? I guess you also think Reilly Smith is worth 3 mil per and Lucic deserves 6 mil or more? Beleskey comes in a shade under 4 mil per. Totally different team now. I like up front but id like to see a solid d-man added.

Made questionable picks, Hamilton trade was an unmitigated disaster, traded a 3rd for Rinaldo, Beleskey and McQuaid were overpaid, but tolerable. They are a worse team without Hamilton, Lucic, Bartkowski and Smith and adding Beleskey, Hayes and Rinaldo. Lucic trade was great for them, but they have zero direction now. If they are trying to win now then don't make trades to weaken your team and if they are building for the future then don't trade a pick for Rinaldo or 2 2nds for Connolly and trade away your young potential franchise D. They seem destined to be a middling team right now with not a great prospect system and if they wanted to retool and save cap moving Chara was the way to do it.

For years everyone ragged on terrible Leafs management from JFJ, to Burke to Nonis and I would try and be optimistic and look on the bright side since it's hard to hate on moves your favorite team makes when you are a die hard fan. Eventually you slowly realize your team fucked up and wish things were done differently and I think Bruins fans will be heading down this road after being spoiled for years with contending teams.

It's pretty much a general consensus among people I follow on twitter who I feel are smart hockey people that the Bruins have had a bad offseason and I definitely agree with that sentiment.

Sweet. Flip him for another 2nd.

We essentially traded him for marcinin this year aa we just sent the 2nd back to the pens in the kessel deal.

There is much more to it than that. Come on. How do you handle the Dougie fiasco when it is now known he wanted out and Sweeney wanted 2015 picks? The lucic deal is a great deal and then flipping Jones for what they got is icing on the cake. Now Zac Rinaldo for a third...mmm ok ...i guess. Be interesting watching him. The dirtbag Bruins fans will love him. The 3.8 for Beleskey is not bad at all considering it is Jul 1st and after 2 years we have an out if he shits the bed. Really happy with Smith being moved. I think they maybe should have gotten a pick thrown in but i dont know enough about Hayes to justify that. The Bruins are giving the young guys a chance to make the team. Spooner and Pastrnak and going to be fucking amazing together. Mark my words. Signing Spooner for 2 years @ .98 is fucking golden. I lost my mind when i heard about dougie but since then I have been trying to see the bigger picture and i am starting to like what he is doing. Not full on rebuild but definately going to be a change in personnel and the prospect cupboard has been restocked in basically 3 weeks.

Matt i'll respond to your post in a bit. Apparently Bruins dont feel Subban or MacIntyre are ready for backup role and will go looking elsewhere to fill backup spot.

I think the bruins are banking on Pastrnak - Spooner - Khokhlachev stepping up their offense big time and filling the holes left up front by Lucic & Reilly.

edit: ya what cam said above about young guys.

Bruins have 9.9 mil in space to sign Hayes, Connolly and a backup goalie. Not bad at all considering where they were.

I assume 1-2 guys are being dealt this summer. Also guys like Parenteau and Acrobello are on 1 year deals and can be flipped at the deadline for extra picks. Not to mention injuries are inevitable.

Have any of you leaf fans heard whether Andreas Johnson (2014 SHL rookie of the year and leaf draft pick) is coming over to North America this season or not?

Exciting young prospect in Johnson.

Im not going to lie but I seem like the only leaf fan on the planet that's pleased with today's deal.

Elite scorers like kessel begin their decline around 31. So in 3 years the pens will most likely have a 7mil winger who's steady declining With 4 years left to pay him. The leafs on the other hand will have a loaded prospect group ready for the nhl. Good times are ahead for leafland.

30 goal scorers still don't grow on trees. The Leafs absolutely bent over and took it like little whores for the Penguins. Yes if you are rebuilding you should trade Kessel, but they could have easily held out for something better than what they got. Who knows what Kessel can do on either Crosby or Malkin's wing now.

I'm with you Steve - not all that upset with Kessel move. Maybe could have gotten some more elsewhere but again in a few years who knows... and for all the goals/pts Kessel gets, dude is an unreal liability on the ice - that line was all > -30 last year. Sure he may win you a game or two, but so much is forgotten about how many he played a big part in losing. I like kessel a lot, but he's your patrick sharp on a team with 4 studs in front of him. He's no ovechkin. He'll do really well in Pitt and they are gonna be a solid team this year. Leafs are gonna scrape the barrel, but that's part in parcel for doing this rebuild properly.

Mikko ratanen is 2 months older than kapenen and kapenen outscored him in the same league.

This was pointed out by dreger. ratanen was just a top 10 pick.
