Im not going to lie but I seem like the only leaf fan on the planet that's pleased with today's deal.

Elite scorers like kessel begin their decline around 31. So in 3 years the pens will most likely have a 7mil winger who's steady declining With 4 years left to pay him. The leafs on the other hand will have a loaded prospect group ready for the nhl. Good times are ahead for leafland.

And not to mention that the leafs changed the culture of the team today with the Kessel trade

So it looks like Arizona is only signing/trading for ex-Coyotes... weird.

I've never been a Dion fan, but that would look pretty bad.

Also, I really don't think Babcock would have been on board with that one after he coached Smith for yrs..

Love the kessel trade.

Some pretty solid prospects to add to our pool and we are most certainly tanking now which is a good thing.

This kind of rebuild should have happened 5-7 years ago.

Amazing.

For a guy who stopped liking the Leafs you sure have a lot invested in the Kessel trade/ rubbing in the Bruins deals?

i never stopped liking the leafs, i just stopped following them this year. Cam has been ragging on leaf deals for years, it's time he suffers a little. you've also been quite invested in what i say, seems odd that you've decided to follow me around lately.

What defines a franchise d-man? How do you sign a player that wants out of your city and off your team? And i dont rag on Leaf deals. I make fun of the Leafs when they come out and steamroll everyone then finish in a lottery position. I have had nothing but praise for what Shanahan is doing since he took the helm.

The words franchise d-man must mean quite a few different things to you than me.

hamilton may become a franchise defenseman during the extent of his new contract but certainly isn't one right now

still, Sweeney's work so far is looking terrible

To be fair, the definition is pretty flexible....is a frachise d man a generational defensive player, or just a number one d man, or something altogether different? Strictly speaking if its a number one d man then there are 30 in the league, but I doubt anyone really believes that.

He certainly has upside. He needs to gain some meanness and improve some hockey IQ. I still miss him and was looking forward to following his forecast improvements. For his young faults he has a lot of positives. Calgary has a ridiculous D-core now.

It truly is difficult to put meaning on those words. I personally take it as a player that you can build a team around. The core of the team. I think Ekblad has the potential to be a franchise d-man. Hedman was thought to be like that and took a dip in his development then just exploded into a monster. I love that guy.
