I'm still kind of shocked.

Re: All Blue Jays
Let's be real here. A package built around Hoffman+Castro could have beat the Royals offer for Cueto. Reyes+Cueto or Tulo?

Too much for a few months of Cueto
Re: All Blue Jays
you resign him. Problem solved. Not like Toronto can't afford to.

Tulo and it's easy.CasperX22 wroteCOLONLet's be real here. A package built around Hoffman+Castro could have beat the Royals offer for Cueto. Reyes+Cueto or Tulo?
We have him for 5 more years...
Cueto has an elbow that has tons of mileage on it too.
Re: All Blue Jays
There are very good odds that say he would sign elsewhere.CasperX22 wroteCOLONyou resign him. Problem solved. Not like Toronto can't afford to.
Also, if we are going to resign him why not just get tulo and sign cueto in the offseason? We have 2-3 more years to compete here is like to think

Re: All Blue Jays
Because you likely don't have a shot at getting him as a FA. If you trade for him, make a run, and show a willingness to commit to him he probably sticks around.KapG wroteCOLONThere are very good odds that say he would sign elsewhere.CasperX22 wroteCOLONyou resign him. Re: All Blue Jays
Its really not. Tulo has a lot of milage on bum knees. Playing on turf is not going to help that.KapG wroteCOLONTulo and it's easy.CasperX22 wroteCOLONLet's be real here. A package built around Hoffman+Castro could have beat the Royals offer for Cueto. Reyes+Cueto or Tulo?

That turf is as close to real gas as you can get. it as re-engineered in the offseason.CasperX22 wroteCOLONIts really not. Tulo has a lot of milage on bum knees. Re: All Blue Jays
Lots of players saying the new turf is actually quite soft. Also talks about jays getting grass soon too.CasperX22 wroteCOLONIts really not. Tulo has a lot of milage on bum knees. His bat is also so elite that we can plug him in at 1st base if those bum knees you speak of get to a point where they are affecting his mobility at ss
Re: All Blue Jays
Moving him to a different position pretty much negates what makes him one of the best players in baseball. Can he hit well enough to justify playing there? Yes, but you also just gave up a really good roster player+2 top prospects to get him. Not that Tulo isn't a worthwhile risk, but you guys blew your wad at the deadline on a player you didn't need and failed to address the largest weakness on the team. This has just as much chance to blow up in their faces as it does of working out.
Re: All Blue Jays
Why do you think Tulo has bum knees? He hasn't had a history of knee injuries so that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Re: All Blue Jays
sportsnet asked an exec with the jays
"are you guys done"
he replied
"**** no, this may not even be the biggest deal we make"
sounds like the jays should be fun to watch the rest of the season!

Re: All Blue Jays
That's arguable, his defence has been so bad that people have been clamoring for Goins to be used as a defensive replacement in late innings. He is good, but at this point in his career adding the really is questionable. Jays also aren't out of prospects and it's too early to judge them and say they didn't address their weak position when the trade deadline hasn't passed. Hawkins and adding Sanchez to the bullpen hopefully shores up one of their perceived weaknesses.CasperX22 wroteCOLONgave up a really good roster player

Re: All Blue Jays
Reyes at this point is more of a spark plug for the team (positive motivator) than an actually contributor.
Great trade, i'm pumped for the next deal

Re: All Blue Jays
Agree with this, really strange trade imo. I get that Tulo is an elite SS but how long he plays that position remains to be seen, and like you said moving him to 1b might make sense but kinda reduces his value in that a 1b with his number isn't as difficult to acquire and doesn't justify the price tag. Gotta think this sets up a trade of Edwin though probably to add a SP or RP, Jays also got Chamberlin off waiver recently so perhaps he can find his form and contribute to the bullpen leaving only a decent SP or two as needs for the team. In a vacuum I like the deal for the Jays though as it does clear up a lot of money, just given the situation as a whole I'm fairly puzzledCasperX22 wroteCOLONMoving him to a different position pretty much negates what makes him one of the best players in baseball. Fwiw I'm not saying you move tulo to first now or even 3 years from now. It's just an option...
Also, I wasn't aware we blew our wad here. That's news to me.
