NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Habs agree to terms on 2-year deal with Alex Galchenyuk.
OH BOY C'mon dirt cheap then... i'm guessing about Zibanejad territory + 0.25/year

I can live with this. Definitely deserves it!Lee wroteCOLON[PHI] Flyers extend Voracek (8 years, $8.25M AAV)
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
seems too much money for Voracek
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Not really. What did you think he was signing for after some of these recent contracts?
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
like 1M less... he is making the same as Giroux now..
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Voracek is making market value for a guy that should put up 70-75 points. AND this is a deal that kicks in in one year's time. Solid deal, worth it.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Was he going to be UFA or RFA at the end of his running contract?
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
UFA. He was getting north of 9 mil if he hit the open market. This is where the market is at now for guys like this. Buckle up because contracts are only going to get more out of hand. It's a great contract though. Locks him in through all of his prime years. Giroux's contract is a bargain. As is Simmonds and Couturier's new contract for that matter. Hextall is identifying the guys that will be their core to build around as all these kids start to come through the system.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
before calling those great contracts I'd wait and see how they perform..
as for Voracek though, if he was an impending UFA then it makes sense. Give him the contract and if you're not fine with it trade him rather than risking of loosing him for nothing.
(my guess is... next I'll be informed he got a NTC)

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I agree with Mik, that's steep for Voracek. He's been very good, and would get this amount or more on open market but it's a lot for a fairly one dimensional winger who's # will go up and down a fair amount year to year. We always judge things so short term, is this a bad contract if he gets 63 points this year? That would be his second highest career total.
G has an excellent contract, has been robbed at each stage of his deals IMO - guy should get a new agent.
Couturier is spot on accurate, neither good nor bad.
Simmonds a total steal, although his offensive production is more a product of hit on a line rather than his own skill-set (IMO).

those are a few that come to mind that look good

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
pretty consistent trend as to how deals are percieved.
Young dmen the contracts are always way too steep, and by the end they are a great deal.
Young forwards are always steals, and by the end they are immoveable contracts.
except for Giroux's 2.75M deal, that was rape by the flyers from the first minute to the last.

1. We shall see. Voracek has been the Flyers best forward each of the last 2 years...that includes Giroux. By purposes of fantasy scoring in this league yes he is one dimensional, but far from it if you are looking at it from a real life perspective.Nick wroteCOLONI agree with Mik, that's steep for Voracek. 2. G signed on the dotted line in those deals. Not like he isn't being paid like a superstar.
3. Yes Couturier deal is a steal. You'll find out when he actually gets the chance to play with actual NHL forwards and not get buried starting in his own zone most of the game with AHL forwards against other teams top lines.
4. Simmonds is a mediocre player at even strength. He isn't going to drive possession, but he does the dirty work on his line and he more than earns his contract as a PP specialist.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
voracek is a better player than nick is giving him credit to be.
Glad Casper came in to let him know what's up.
