I actually am thinking I want trouba now. Lots. I may throw a realistic offer at you after work.

Can someone please explain why expecting Giordano in a deal for Trouba is ridiculous LOL?

If Gio gets 8M next year it would be a ridiculously bad deal for you Shiv. This is the year to move Gio if you want full value and he isn't part of a team trying to win it all. His value will take a big hit next year with a huge contract and at an age that seems to scare half the GMs in this league. I'd rather Trouba personally as his periphs are already better and Gio is asking for 9M so slim chance he signs for less than 7.5 IMO.

I'm with Fraser, personally. I think Fraser could find a ton more value elsewhere for an already top 10 dman in the league. (unless shiv is adding to trouba and we aren't privy to that info.)

Whatever Kim. Shiv undervalues Gio too despite his consistent interest. The fact of the matter is he would have likely remained the #1 defenseman in all of BBKL if he didn't lose his last 20 games. And he makes 4 million dollars per year. That kind of player isn't ever going to be in the bargain bin.

I agree that this season Gio is a top 10 BBKL D when looking at value and production, but I think there's no chance he is next year.

Doesn't mean that trading him for 1 player with future potential is the best move. He could probably find a deal where he gets multiple trouba-esque assets for gio.

Gio is the type of player Fraser could ask a team wanting to compete to give up (from my own team example): wennberg + despres + morrissey, and it wouldn't be a terrible offer.

There will always be a market for top players despite their salary. Patrick Kane being moveable at 10.5 proves that. And Gio is a considerably stronger BBKLer than Kane.

All that being said. Gio is an absolute horse. Would move quite a few other guys before him if salary becomes a concern.

Trouba is already proven, I don't get the future potential talk. He could and probably will get better, but he is already better Periphs and only 25pts less for a fraction of the cost. I don't think Fraser is landing multiple young established top pair D for Gio. Neither player is mine though so I don't have anything invested or any bias one way or the other. If I am Fraser and not trying to win I'd move him when his value is at it's peak, but he would probably do things different with my team too and he has done very well with the Canucks so he has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Also Kane at 10.5 has a lot less value than Kane at 6 just like Gio at 4 has a lot more value than at 8 and he is older than Kane too. Not at all saying Gio isn't valuable since he obviously is.

This.

GIve it 2 years. Gio will be ~7-8M cap hit at 33 years of age. Trouba will be 4-5M at 24 and starting to produce even more than he is now. I'll land Gio + at that time with ease.
