I found Lowry played the wrong guys at points in the game. Hicketts also has to trust his goalie on that and not think he's going to stop a puck in the air with his stick. USA deserved to win, but we killed ourselves at times and didn't capitalize on the chances we had.

Really this win belongs to Ned. USA was badly outplayed in the 1st 2 periods and Ned made a ton of big saves. USA really put it on Canada in the 3rd.

McDonald played a strong game minus the Werenski goal. 2 of the goals were literally on his own defenders deflecting the puck by him. The Werenski goal he needs to stay on his feet longer. No chance on a high shot like that if you go down early.

No I agree today just looking at all I've seen of him going back to pre tourney he just just doesn't look as comfortable or in control as Blackwood does to me

McDonald played a strong game minus the Werenski goal. 2 of the goals were literally on his own defenders deflecting the puck by him. The Werenski goal he needs to stay on his feet longer. No chance on a high shot like that if you go down early.
Spoken exactly like someone whose never played goal lol. Nothing to do with staying on his feet longer. He was screened pretty bad on that one. Needs to clearly be more aggressive on his angles though, as this game plus the Sweden game is really showing his deficiencies. Interesting thing is D-men are taking way fewer clappers (both in the NHL and juniors) which makes life way harder as a goalie because you can't hear the shot... and if you can't also see it you better hope someone is blocking it or you have your angles spot on.
Was really interesting seeing Nedeljkovic's style though. Never seen him play before. Stays upright way longer than most - a la brodeur. Kind of refreshing to see.

I think Blackwood + the Strome line could be enough. They really dominated I thought.
Overall I think they were just being too cute. Trying to score the pretty 4 pass goal instead of letting it rip when they were in prime shooting position and banging in some garbage. I think they'll come around on that. Not too concerned.
But agreed - this definitely isn't one of the best teams we've sent over. Plus no home ice advantage.

Canada def outplayed the US for most of the game IMO. Ned kept them in it till they could get some dirty goals. Your D definitely didn't help out Mason with screening him and deflecting pucks. Sloppy play on both ends but being that this was a rivalry game emotions were amped up. Long way to go for both teams

You can easily make that save on your feet or on your knees. If you play butterfly that's fine, you just can't be doing that on your goal line, especially if you're reflexes aren't your strong suit. I agree staying up longer would be my preference too but they key point is his angles and his skill at seeing around the screen... whether that's getting low (like Johnny Quick) or staying upright and looking over and around (like most other tenders).
Sorry if I seem sensitive haha but pet peeve is people commenting on goaltending when they've never played at a competitive level... end rant.
