I read a lot of Canadians were crossing over to the states to buy tickets. Also read online that some parts of Canada can buy them online....don't know how true that is tho

I'd definitely pay for Fantrax until the league seizes to be and we can have prizes for division winners and conference champions...and of course the big winner at the end. Maybe even have payouts for winning a category. With all the bread, you gotta piss some of it away.

Re: Powerball
Yeah...really generous, I know. A lot of people says they'd be generous with their jackpot but I wonder how many people actually follow through and don't just waste it on themselves.
I had this debate over the weekend with Mrs. S about how much money is too much money. I frankly wouldn't be comfortable with that much money...especially when it's not earned. I wish the lottery would give away $1 million at a time and do multiple draws each time...increase everyone's odds of winning and I kinda wonder if more people would play if the odds were better to win a million dollars. What happened to $1 million being a lot of money?
And I argued that buying 10 tickets for the big money drawings is silly compared to buying 1 ticket for 10 separate drawings. Depends on how you want to look it at though.
Another thing to think about was what if you played the lottery every draw for most of your adult life. If you bought a $2 ticket for each draw of the week (Wednesday and Saturday) every week for say 40 years...it would cost you $8,320. Would you rather keep that money or risk it for the shot at winning a jackpot?

Were I in a state/province that allowed it I wouldn't publicly accept the prize. No oversize cheque, no media appearances. Send your lawyer, representing your LLC to pick up the $$$.
And yeah I'd take the $8,320 (or $26,522 at 5% compound interest over 40 years).

yea no WAY would i publicly accept that prize.
They let the pot grow up that large because more people buy in then. You divide it up, and it's actually less tickets that will be bought. People aren't good at judging low chances, and with a large pay off for ridiculous odds people overweigh their chances and assign a higher value to that ticket. aka people overestimate the probabilities of unlikely events

Re: Powerball
I really wonder how many tickets are being bought because the jackpot has sky rocketed in the last couple weeks. It's basically doubled since last week. That's a lot of $2 tickets but there's a lot of 99-percenters that would love to win a massive amount of cash.
