Re: College Hockey talk
There's not necessarily tournament stats...the regular season stats carryover. Kyle Connor finished the year with 71 points in 38 games...includes the 2 assists he got in two tournament games for Michigan.

Re: College Hockey talk
Quinnipiac vs. North Dakota for the title on Saturday night. A blue blood program in NoDak going against a green horn...Quinnipiac has been a D1 program since around the turn of the millennium. Only 2 drafted players on Quinnipiac compared to a dozen on NoDak. Quinnipiac makes the 2nd appearance in the finals in 4 years. Crazy to think a program like North Dakota hasn't been to the title game since 2005.
The last 3 champs in D1 haven't been the bedrock programs...Yale, Union and Providence. Plus, Duluth was a first time winner 2011. I think college hockey is seeing a similar trend what we see in college hoops...the big name programs attract the bigger recruits (Eichel to BU, Larkin to Michigan, et al) but they don't stay 4 years. Many want to go pro as soon as possible. The smaller programs can build over time and I think this is what's happened in recent years. It makes these tournaments more unpredictable.

Re: College Hockey talk
Much like their first round matchup last year, North Dakota gets a decisive win over Quinnipiac to win their 8th title...just one behind Michigan for the most all-time.
I believe this will be the first time...the United Center in Chicago will host next year's Frozen Four. A far less remote location than Tampa this year. I give the fan bases credit...the crowds were quite good in Tampa this year. There's not really a Sun Belt presence in college hockey like their in the NHL.

Re: College Hockey talk
Well, Caggiula signed with the Oilers...interesting considering Stecher signed with the Canucks and his linemate Boeser was a Canucks pick last year.
Undersized but very feisty and highly competitive. Had a very productive senior year at North Dakota...6 goals and an assist in the 4 game run to the national title.

Re: College Hockey talk
UMD, BU, and UND are all in the same region? Not gonna pretend I've been closely following NCAA this season but that seems like a tough group.

Re: College Hockey talk
BU-North Dakota is definitely the most loaded matchup as far as prospects. It's not always a given the team with the most talent will win.
You get programs like Union where most of their guys go undrafted and play all 4 years and they'll have some strong senior class that leads them to a great season. Plus, when we're dealing with one game scenarios...the hot goalie factor always plays in.
To me, this one of the most balanced tournament fields in a long time. I can see 10 of the 16 teams winning the title.
