I don't view it that way... He's still a high quality player and not a stretch to think he'll find top line form
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
NYR 1st 2017 + Eric Gelinas for Eric Staal

although not a 'junk' or rude offer in any sense...it's also not one that's going to get me all excited to see if he's serious.
This was the first season every he has failed to score 20 goals, and the first season ever he failed to collect 30assists, and only his 2nd season under 60 points. He'll be on a significantly reduced contract and I doubt he's happy with that season, a motivated player is a nice one to have.

His numbers have also declined each of the last 2 years. Staal is on the downslide of his career. I hope he is better for you that he has been, but he won't be a Flyer for your price via PM.
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
Eric is just 31... let's not act like he's 37 here. Same draft as Carter, Getz, Fleury, Phaneuf, Burns, Parise, Perry, Kes, etc... #1 for points in that draft class. I agree they've all likely played their best years, but more 60point seasons are not some unreasonable dream. Trading for a non-impact player who'll likely have fewer NHL GP left in them is a silly concept, or for a mid-late first that is 2 drafts from now, meaning 4 seasons in all likelihood; probably 6 years until that piece could potentially match Eric's output; just not a good value prop.
now a dman (who does not look like top pairing stuff - but also not a risk to be cut) that would be a quick deal to complete.
Beau is good, but he will be 37 next season; love the guy but there's gotta be more than a 2nd coming with him.

Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
I'm not sure you've payed attention to Dumba. he was one of their best dmen at 21 years old.
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
Lol did he just say dumba is likely to be cut? LOL
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
Probably referring to gelinas
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
I definitely did not say Dumba was likely to be cut, he's looking to be a stable 3-4 and an example of who would be an easy deal, although I acknowledge he's young and that's probably the source of Lee's non-interest in pursuing those talks.
Gelinas was seeing 7-14min on the AVS to end the year, after being a 9-20min dman through 34games on NJD. He's interesting but cannot be the main return piece on Eric Staal, IMO.

Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
the lottery pick was the main piece. gelinas was a sweetener.
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
Oh I didn't/don't think NYR is what would be typically called a lottery pick, KapG is too competitive for any real shot, add in the 2 drafts away and time from play that follow and I think there's just not enough for me to pull the trigger.
Re: TBL quest for a blueline-block
2 drafts away. The draft is in 13 months.
