Billy wins out of my eagerness to make a deal and no one else expressing any real interest. Hopefully this doesn't look as bad as the Rielly Smith trade...

It does. From my reading, dahlbeck has taken a step back and may be a 6/7 dman long term

Hmm, ya not great. I'm realizing patience is important in this thing.
Woulda been interested but I've got too many aging C on bloated contracts already.

Re: OTT/TBL
Ya I liked Timashov a lot more than a 2017 mid first and klas a little more than gelinas.
Re: OTT/TBL
You need your head checked if you think Timashov is worth anywhere near a mid 1st round pick.
Klas over Gelinas , sure. Gelinas has also put up 30 in the league, might be able to do that again. Klas is not capable of that.

Re: OTT/TBL
That shot is far better than a large majority of NHLers. Put him in a MAB, PP specialist role from the point and he will get there. Maybe his D never does, but his offensive game more than makes up for it.

Re: OTT/TBL
Klas and Gelinas are both a step away from the minors at the moment
Re: OTT/TBL
For somebody that supposedly had so much faith in Staal, you sure did sell really low. Good chance you wind up with 2 career organizational depth pieces out of this deal.

There have been plenty of defenders that have made a living in the NHL off less.thom54 wroteCOLONGelinas has a shot and that's it

Where a player was drafted doesn't change a player. We're taking about a smal player who fell in draft:
2015 QMJHL All-Rookie Team QMJHL Most Assists by Rookie (71) QMJHL Most Points by Rookie (90) QMJHL Offensive Rookie of the Year (Michel Bergeron Trophy) QMJHL Rookie of the Year
PPG @ WJC
10th-best point production per game of any under-18 skater in the league since the 2012-13. And draft-year pts/60 of 3.90 compared very favourably to other highly touted CHL prospects of recent years, such as Robbie Fabbri (3.99), Leon Draisaitl (3.83) and Sam Reinhart (3.90); this is a super dynamic player and IMO a steal by the leafs.
His regular season scoring rate before trade had surpassed that of Dylan Strome and his percentage increase in production had exceeded that of Mitch Marner. Now he's in the Q finals w/24points in 16playoff games...kinda similar to first rounders in his draft year.
I would rather the player described above than a mid-1st draft pick over a year away.

I accepted risk in this deal, obviously don't view this as accurate.
Tima Show is nicely tested prospect at this stage, and although Klas didn't have a great sophomore season, I try and make a buy low pick from time to time. I do love Eric Staal and believe he'll sign around 6M and return to 50+ points and a huge shot producer.
Re: OTT/TBL
A lot I would say. Just seems like a low return as much as you were talking up Staal. Timashov makes or breaks this deal for you. Very high risk move.Nick wroteCOLONCasperX22 wroteCOLONFor somebody that supposedly had so much faith in Staal, you sure did sell really low.
