100+ and 6th overall in OHL scoring in +1 year, that's why I mentioned his stats for the last two years.

Bruyns wroteCOLONIs Kevin Labanc drafted in the 6th round worth a 1st? Put up 234 points in his last 133 games in the OHL which is lower scoring than the Q.

The reason Timo dropped are questions about if his game will translate to the NHL. Same reason why even though Labanc was first in points in the O outscoring Dvorak by 6 he still isn't talked about like a can't miss stud prospect.

Here are some knocks on Timashov

"His size, physical game, and defense are issues. He also has a tendency to make some risky decisions. I like him a lot but I see what the hesitations would be."

"I saw Timashov a few times recently. Skating appears to be a bigger issue than I thought around the draft. Not super slow, but a little wonky for a smaller guy. I know of a few NHL people who thought that was an issue for them."
when were these comments released?

cause to me his skating this season looked definitely better than pre-draft (not to mention his shot)
Bruyns wroteCOLON Really high risk/reward guy that either makes it in the NHL as a skilled playmaker or doesn't play in the NHL at all, I don't see a bottom 6 energy type of player role in his future so he needs to be able to produce offence at the NHL level.
this is probably true though
Pronman after last season so yes his skating this season wasn't taken into account.

yeah I get you. I'm just saying I wouldn't pay more than a 3rd for him. 8 wouldn't trade Nielsen for a 2nd but I'm not getting a 1st.

I wouldn't pay a 2nd for Nielsen, but I think Lernout on my team is worth a 2nd so we all generally overvalue our own. I'd pay a 3rd for Timashov and Labanc, maybe a late 2nd.

Nielsen was 65th overall and was a top scoring WHL dman who is touted as defense first. Selected ahead of guys like Provorov sanheim etc as a first team all star

Was considered a reach at the time too. Obviously I want both Nielsen and Timashov to be star players, but not being overly optimistic makes it so they are pleasant surprises if they make the NHL which would be a success for players drafted in those spots.

Me being over optimistic has no bearing on their development.

I'm a Leafs homer, but not a big enough of one to think every prospect the Leafs have is going to pan out and develop to their max potential. Carrick, Percy, Valiev, Dermott, Lindgren, Harrington, Loov, Nielsen, hopefully the Leafs can get 3 NHLers out of that group. I have Carrick, Valiev, Dermott and Harrington ahead of Nielsen.

He's my guy, so of course he is going to develop into an NHL allstar. You may have just convinced me to bump my price up to a first.

Lee I think you're a slightly more attuned to prospects than to suggest LeBlanc is a comparable for Tima:

35point rookie in OHL
4th liner in USNDP @ u18
not on (a weaker) WJC squad
drafted as over-ager

vs

ROY & highest scoring rookie in Q,
led team in points -> that's a pretty nice draft year
PPG in WJC and was utterly dynamic
Crushing Q playoffs

guy draws reviews like:
An agile winger with very good puckhandling skills; his explosiveness opens up space for himself and teammates, giving him the ablility to create dangerous chances at top speed. All-in-all, a dangerous player who will wow audiences with his speed and creativity.
&
An offensive dynamo, the diminutive-but-stocky forward Timashov plays a style of game that suits the smaller, North American ice surfaces. He doesn’t mind getting involved physically and that asset of his game contributes strongly to his offensive game, creating both time and space for him to find the open man
Mark Hunter knew the Toronto Maple Leafs had a sleeper pick in Dmytro Timashov. Now the world knows it. In terms of individual performances, two prospects stood out to Hunter: Timashov and Marner
I mean, you can sit there and swear by nothing but draft positions, insert head into sand and say " everything was known on draft day", or you can use new info as it comes in, and make new evaluations based on newer evidence. His closest comparison IMO seems to be Timo who he is facing right now in the Q playoffs.

Do you think Aho would still fall to 2nd round?
DeBrusk still goes in the 1st?
Bosser a late 1st?
Kylington to the last 2nd rounder?

I'd be amazed if you don't re-evaluate those guys...

anyways, just because he was brought up:
Andrew Nielson has a surface improvement but the details don't back it up. post draft year dman scoring bumps are one thing, rank on team scoring is crucial in understanding if he is the impact or following the team, 5v5 points by dmen are all telling... and sure enough he scores mostly secondary assists, & on the power play, and is 4th on the team in scoring. Compares to Provorov who is 2nd on team in scoring, primarily 1st assists and does lots of work 5v5 -> it falls short.

I don't think there's a need to generalize when there's a lot of info to use. Tima vs LeBlanc is not close, Nielson had an awesome draft+1 but let's be clear, improvement for sure, but lots of factors that indicate it's not purely based on his play.

Tima continued dominant Q scoring, was outstanding at WJC and is playing amazing in the Q playoffs -> if he was a 1st rounder we'd be saying we're very happy with his play at all of the above and the way he looks. So because he's a 5th. I would not trade him for a mid first over a year away; Next year it wouldn't surprise me to see him PPG in the AHL.

Insanely rare for rookie 19 year olds to go ppg in AHL. This year with nylander and rant was extremely incredible. For example, neither Filip forsberg or teravainen cam that close to ppg as 19/20 year olds.

I'll take vatrano. I wouldn't mind a nylander - vatrano line.

Tima will be 20 (Oct 1st), and agree PPG 20 year old is very rare in AHL; I'm saying it would not surprise me, not to expect it, truthfully a 50pt in 70gp season would be an incredible campaign and highlight IMO that he was a total sleeper pick and easily worth more than a mid-first over a year away.
