I agree that McCann could have been traded, it's trading the 33rd and 93rd picks when your prospects are pretty weak and you are rebuilding that makes me laugh at how inept Benning seems to be.Fraser wroteCOLONMcCann was expendible. Especially if Dubois is coming in.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Leafs get a 3rd instead of a 4th for Reimer if the Sharks win this game.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
BTW - another trade during the playoffs confirmed. Not a small one either. When will we allow trading during the playoffs?
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
How many trades get posted the first day trading opens up? Seems like the demand is pretty low.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Demand is pretty low because everyone has moved on to summer by the time we can trade and don't bother coming back until draft time. No reason for non playoff teams to stick around.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Something weird I just noticed. The year Jim carey won the vezina he only had a .906 save percentage. ~ 10th to 15th amongst nhl starters.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
well they got a 24 year old top 4 dman, I like Gudb and if it was straight mcaan for him this would be a home-run for Vancouver, now their 33rd+93rd Imo might be a swing in Florida's favour, however it leaves them in a bad spot on the blue line IMO. Overall I like the trade for Vancouver.
All it tells me though, is that Vancouver isn't trying to rebuild through their system, they want to get back to the good times today. And who knows, healthy Edler, a good season out of Miller and an unexpected UFA signing like E.Staal, Brouwer or Backes and their lineup isn't out of question for a playoff-spot IMO, especially if their 1st pick is rushed to the show!!!!

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I think VAN gets destroyed in this deal
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Agreed Rolling a D core of something like
Edler-Gudbranson
Hutton-Tanev
Hamhuis-Tryamkin
Is pretty solid if the kids continue to progress.
Sedin-Sedin-X
X-Horvat-Virtanen
X-Sutter-Hansen
X-Gaunce/Granlund-Etem
With a major FA and if 5th overall can come straight in and make an impact its not a disgusting lineup. Again if the young guys continue to progress.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Not necessarily
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Oh great, we can squeak in at 8th next season or just miss and getb9th and set the rebuild back another year. Where have I seen that before? Toronto fans? Anybody?

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Florida wins this one. Gudbranson is a good not great defenceman. He has little to no offensive ability and he's only been slightly above average in his own end. McCann looked solid as a 19 year old that skilled the AHL potting 9 goals as a rookie. The 33rd overall pick seems like overkill on the Canucks part as I think straight up this deal makes a lot more sense.

Essentially this, the only sports analyst that likes this deal for Vancouver is Nick Kyperous (that should say enough)Shep wroteCOLONFlorida wins this one. Gudbranson is a good not great defenceman.
