NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Chris Johnston of sports net speculates that the leafs will offer Bernier+ for MAF
I personally would be very happy with this deal as MAF has been criminally underrated as of late and is still an elite goaltender.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
doesn't mean Vatanen isn't traded though, just means he's locked up.

Well for a non playoff team I can see the argumentbills09 wroteCOLONChris Johnston of sports net speculates that the leafs will offer Bernier+ for MAF

No thanks, unless it's 1 for 1 since they owe us after paying for Kessel's salary to win the cup there.bills09 wroteCOLONChris Johnston of sports net speculates that the leafs will offer Bernier+ for MAF

Seriously? Lol! Don't think Pittsburgh would even consider that unless a good portion of Bernier's salary is retained.Bruyns wroteCOLONNo thanks, unless it's 1 for 1 since they owe us after paying for Kessel's salary to win the cup there.bills09 wroteCOLONChris Johnston of sports net speculates that the leafs will offer Bernier+ for MAF

Agreed. Otherwise there is not much point trading him. Need the cap space.CasperX22 wroteCOLONSeriously? Lol! Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
^Agreed. No incentive to take on bernier's contract - can keep zatkoff for cheap and jarry's numbers were close to as good as murray's, so another promising tender there.. Could see the leafs trying it and keeping Bernier for the year, but doesn't make sense for a team rebuilding with a ton of kids. Other goalies will become available in the coming couple of years.
Edit: actually just looked at jarry's stats and they tailed off as the year went along. Still not bad.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Wasn't serious that I thought the Pens would do it just don't want to pay up for Fleury. There will be a lot of good goalies available because of the upcoming expansion draft and the supply should be much higher than demand so no need to give up a lot in a trade.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Not understanding the logic here. With adding more teams that will be taking goalies from existing teams wouldn't there be less viable goalies?Bruyns wroteCOLONWasn't serious that I thought the Pens would do it just don't want to pay up for Fleury. Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I believe his thought process is teams with 2 good goalies will be attempting to trade their 2nd goalie to teams with poor goaltending for future assets rather than simply lose a guy for free at expansion, alas anderson or vasilevsky, or at Louis tandem.

Pickard, Grubauer, Korpisalo, Andersen, Bishop, Elliott, Binnington, Varlamov, Subban are all probably on the market and the Leafs and Flames are the only two teams that don't seem set in goal. Fleury is better than some, but I don't think a goalie in his 30s making big money is the right direction for Toronto to go right now, maybe in a few years. I think the right play is to ride out the year with Bernier as we won't be a great team yet and let a goalie deal come to them from a team that needs/wants to move one. Lots of goalies don't seem elite and then go on to have good years and I think with Fleury you are paying more for name value.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Andersen, Elliott and Fleury would be the only goalies I'm interested in. If Leafs cannot acquire Andersen from the Ducks, than I am more than fine with Fleury. Just 3 years left on his deal, he's 31, the team needs stability from a veteran goaltender while we draft or acquire young up-and-coming goaltenders.Bruyns wroteCOLONCorrectMatthew wroteCOLONI believe his thought process is teams with 2 good goalies will be attempting to trade their 2nd goalie to teams with poor goaltending for future assets rather than simply lose a guy for free at expansion, alas anderson or vasilevsky, or at Louis tandem.

$5.75 for a starting goaltender is not big money any more. Fleury is still a top goaltender in the NHL.
The rumour is 2 2nds for Fleury being the likely cost.

I actually think the leafs need some stability back there also, it makes it more attractive for UFAs when you have a quality goalie. I'd be fine with the 31st pick straight for Fluery.Shep wroteCOLONAndersen, Elliott and Fleury would be the only goalies I'm interested in. I'd also draft Hart at 30, he should be ready when Fleury is a UFA.

He was brought in to attract a younger audience, all it did was piss off the older folks. Ratings dropped off pretty bad under Strombodave1959 wroteCOLONgood...I can't stand Stroumbowhateverthefuckhisnameis
I personally didn't mind him, he didn't do an awful job, he just isn't a good fit for HNIC.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
i don't think the ratings had anything to do with Strombo. Shitty hockey teams in big canadian markets sink that.
I liked him, love Ron.
But the fact that they keep fucking Hrudey and the other idiots (won't say his fucking name) ... that's frustrating.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I actually agree with this. Bad hockey teams in Montreal and Toronto can kill the NHL and it's ratings. If the leafs and habs are cruising the NHL ratings are up.thom54 wroteCOLONi don't think the ratings had anything to do with Strombo. Shitty hockey teams in big canadian markets sink that.

I never felt like strombo added much, just not a hockey guy and it shows.
I like Kyperos, don't mind Elliot, but the goalies gotta go. they are hard to listen to.
