Agreed. If I liked some of the guys available at my picks more than the guy I actually chose then I would've taken them haha
I call BS on this to a degree, If you take a guy 2nd overall and he goes undrafted you can't say it doesn't change your opinion. Same as if you take a guy 210th and he gets drafted 2nd overall. Draft position does factor in a bit since lets face it NHL teams and the resources they spend on scouts should be a better judge of a player than we are.

If you take a guy 112 and he goes 158 I agree who cares.

I think if you spend a 4th on a guy and he goes 2nd round, people you are trading that piece with will value it more. I feel that is why it is important to get bbkl sleepers. If you try and add a guy who went NHL 7th to a trade he will be non valued as 7ths rarely become nhlers, and people will write it off.

Scott's 2 extra 1sts as opposed to the 3rds he used to select them can be used to acquire quality nhlers. If they went In the 3rd I don't believe so.

And when guys go undrafted that can almost be a complete write off of value, unfortunately.

That's a huge extreme though that would never happen lol. Honestly, most NHL teams are probably usually as wrong as we are. There's still lots of chance involved.

I agree that going undrafted can hurt value. I just don't care if a player goes round 2 and was taken round 4 here lol.

Pissed the Leafs took a 20 year old at 31. What the hell lol? I'll have to just trust our scouts I guess.

Two more picks coming up for the Leafs, really hoping we grab one of Quenneville or Sokolov.

Not entirely true...Artemi Panarin. Mik picked him and hung onto him. Never was drafted and now look at him.

I'm not saying all undrafted guys can be that but it's not a given a guy is doomed if undrafted. Where do you think we have all those college free agents every year? Undrafted guys that had value when they became free agents.

You can have a little patience with these guys if they go undrafted.

Sure, if you don't want to hang onto them for a bit. I think it's silly to move a guy right away unless someone overpays. Even then, you don't know what the guy is worth as an 18 or 19 year old.

Looks like Sokolov is going undrafted too, wonder if he goes back to Russia now.

If you needed an add in a trade for a player your 3rd round picks that were taken in the first hold more value then if they were taken in the 7th. Long term it might not matter but it is still a bonus for value when your player is taken significantly early.
