From a Habs fan http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/p-k- ... s-history/

I shouldn't get so much joy out of my least favourite team fucking up, but I do, sorry Chuck.

Well I'm a little surprised by everyone's sudden love of PK, like we're talking about someone who doesn't make team Canada being swapped 1:1 for a guy who is an auto-pick, and then suddenly saying "oh look at this (weird) measure called possession" and we all know possession wins hockey games, so MTL got hosed... WTF? advanced stats used without context miss huge portions of the story.

now if because of age (4 years?) or contract (AAV vs length) or excitement to a fanbase, I think all are valid points, but an argument that Subban is the better player today, falls short IMO. Weber is a positional excellent, prototypical dman. PK is the counter to that, positionally questionable, roaming dman.

He plays fewer minutes, against weaker competition, and is started more often in the offensive zone: http://www.hockeyabstract.com/playerusagecharts

Every d-man who has ever played next to Weber is turned into a studd, Suter, Jones & Josi. I do believe they are all very very good dmen, however I also believe he allows for good skating dmen to really find their game and have max impact -> He and DD in the olympics were the best pairing I've seen in the modern era.

Subban/Markov played the toughest comp on the team so no idea where that notion comes from. Most people whose opinion I respect also believe Weber over Subban on the World Cup team is a joke and so do I. Not going to argue anymore though since it is so clear that Subban is superior that I actually feel foolish having to defend it. That post I linked does a good job explaining it if corsi doesn't appeal to you even though all it is are shot attempt differential which is far from a complex mathematical algorithm used to determine value.

When the vast majority of Habs fans are devastated and the vast majority of Preds fans are ecstatic it should be pretty obvious who won a trade.

On to laughing at another team's misfortune

So Chiarelli has traded away:
Hall
Pick #16 (Barzal)
Pick #33
Marincin

And got back:
Reinhart
Larsson
B. Ross
4th rounder

Just brutal.

^seriously?? that' the return??

And as much as I do think Weber's game is slowing down I think if he recognizes it, he's got a long career ahead of him being a nasty mother fucker. He's the next pronger IMO. just so big and takes up so much space.

I also think PK's possession numbers are slightly inflated because he wheels with the puck a lot... not sure its always productive, and often counter-productive with bad turnovers if I remember correctly. Weber is more of a on the stick off the stick kind of guy. Doesn't make your offense explosive from a transition standpoint but is a beast and can clearly score on the PP.

that's not a corsi comparison, thats a relative corsi comparison. So by Josi, Ekholm & Ellis being very strong, Shea getting high quality of opponents, and defensive zone starts, its not an individual stats comparison between Shea and PK. Jost and Weber draw insanely hard matches, their qualcomp is practically off of the scale (now that is another measure I wouldn't defend as a bais for comparison on it own, but) with the entire picture together, what it pains is clearly a bit of a problem with corsirel, and Josi and Weber suck at that measure. Does that mean Nashville is better with them off of the ice? if you that's the trust in that one measure I think we've just highlighted the biggest (potential) flaw in "advanced" stats, which is putting too much value in a single measure and forgetting or ignoring the rest of the information.

Subban is the most popular Montreal Canadian, (which is of course a much larger market and fan base than NSH) and he may be the higher value piece in this deal (younger, way less miles on him, less years left on deal); however i disagree he's the better d-man at this point in time, or that it's some awful deal. 8-)

Arian The Insider wroteCOLONTAYOR HALL FOR ADAM LARSSON

edit: official
Ok this officially made me more active in BBKL again.

As a larsson owner, this is amazing. Larsson has elite first pass. Larsson to McDavid is much better than Larsson to Cammelleri
Larsson had 18 points but he started in Dzone mostly and had no PP time, while the top point producing dman in NJ had 21 points only.
I am expecting good things to come.

Faulk - Larsson
Risto - Hammer

(i forgot who else i have on my roster....)

Arian The Insider wroteCOLONI heard that Weber's defensive game isn't the same and he wasn't the same Shea Weber towards the end of the year. I don't watch Nashville but this seems to be the popular opinion from the eye test as well, if you don't like analytics for whatever reason. Still a great player but maybe not the same presence he used to be in his own end.
I was talking to a few nsh fans and they were actually saying that ekholm has been the best defender for them the last little while.

All I'm gonna say on this is there is only 2 times that I've EVER questioned my devotion to the Habs (its basically a religion): the Patrick Roy deal where they traded my idol away....and now this one. Doing some major soul searching on this one...

This article sums it up best IMO:

Bruyns wroteCOLONHow so? The above chart is very simple, it is shot attempts for and against at even strength when Weber is on the ice as opposed to when he is on the bench. The Predators allowed way more shots when Weber was on the ice in comparison to other D on the Preds, it isn't something that can be argued it is a fact.
unless I'm missing something that's a pretty useless fact though. Let me know when that number is contextualized with OZS/DZS (and quality of competition).
Nick wroteCOLONEvery d-man who has ever played next to Weber is turned into a studd, Suter, Jones & Josi. I do believe they are all very very good dmen,
you don't seem to realize Josi has been the better D for a while, the opposite of Weber carrying him. And I don't see how Weber had anything to do with Jones becoming a stud (maybe in the future)

Weber's game has been on the decline and has not been what it used to be for a while. At 31, chances are he's not going to get better. He'll still score a lot of goals on PP though, that's the main reason he's an auto-pick for the team Canada (they can pick whatever other D they need, and no one shoots like Weber..)
