Re: Trade: DET-TOR
yup, TJ is as good as they come when we're talking about BBKL centres. Young, cheap and excellent production. If Stamkos leaves he'll also be a top line C.Mike wroteCOLONI take Johnson over Krug any day. Not close either..

Is this not a good trade? Best one Scott has made using one of his firsts IMO
Better pieces in here I think and for a lesser prospect.
Looking back on that thread all I pretty much said was that it was krug + yakupov and a bunch of "meh" and that I thought darkness could have gotten a better deal if he waited. Id take Johnson over any of those guys

Re: Trade: DET-TOR
I would've gotten a different return if I left my options more open-ended. Getting a younger NHL center was a requirement in the deal so any pile of picks or prospects wasn't going to appeal to me. Value-wise, it could've worked but I have immediate needs with my active roster.
My team won't survive if I don't build up some of reserves at the pro level. I'll have a softer landing spot for any draft pick I have going forward because I won't expect them to be the savior and #1 point producer right away. I want to have a handful of dependable young(er) forwards and a steady defense that I can have for several years while prospects develop.
I've preached the idea of building a self-sustaining team...where if I need a player to fill out a lineup spot, I can call on my own guys and not have to overpay to acquire someone. And much like what Mike or Steve or Mik or any other resource-rich team in this league...you can cash in some of your youth and upgrade or add a player you need. It takes years to build up but you have to start somewhere.

This wasnt brought up to embarrass shoalzie. I was gonna pm him to inquire on tj and wondered what was the deal that got him tj
Really though looking back i wonder what all the pieces ended up being. Tj and what?
Pearson went for what? (No longer on det roster)
2016 1st nyi ended up as what
Etc
In the end tj is a solid adored bbkler. Is he elite no.
Pearson elite no
2016 1st nyi elite no
One auston matthews now would garner at least 2 elite pieces from any of the contenders right now imo
I just thought about this and wondered is the depth u acquired worth it
Im contemplating in my head ya if it was jamie benn and patrice bergeron kinda depth sure
But contenders dont give u that
Is the direction of ur franchise better off with ability to dress competent lineup now
Or would matthews on ur team with 3 holes in ur lineup with ability to make up for gp down the road by makinh smaller deals to get in fillers a better option?
I wanted to pick ur brain thats all

Re: Trade: DET-TOR
The more unfortunate trade was boeser for nichushkin and then nichushkin heading back to Russia. There is a chance boeser beats/matches gaudreaus 3rd year college point totals in his 2nd year. Boeser is gonna be good. Hopefully nich will improve in the khl and return to the NHL in a few years to help Scott.

Still too early to tell. This trade was a part of multiple deals over the summer to improve my team. I should the compile entire cycle just for reference sake. The big pieces that went were the #1 overall (Matthews), Subban and Sam Bennett...amongst other secondary pieces.
Off the top of my head, I ended up with Tyler Johnson, Vince Trocheck, Anders Lee, Drew Stafford, Michael Del Zotto, Justin Braun and Jason Garrison...I'm sure there's more pieces.
Jury is out is on the Nichushkin-Boeser swap...obviously, I lose until he comes back to the NHL.
If I don't do all these trades and draft Matthews, I'm short on bodies...badly. Also, I'm not going to lie...the fact I don't own my 2017 1st (traded for Mike Smith)...that played a part in wanting to add players to improve. If I still owned my '17 1st...there's a better chance I don't trade Matthews.
