Oh I definitely agree. This is a dream trade for Mik as he got literally everything he wanted. And Shoalzie trades the main piece he got for Matthews+another likely lotto pick for Malkin and his contract. It's just depressing really.

The idea of this going bad for me a couple years down the road is a risk I'm willing to take. You think me trading away my 1st doesn't give me extra motivation to continue to make my current team better? I'm tired of being a doormat. I want to make progress in this league. I just acquired the 3rd leading point-getter in the NHL. Yeah, that was a dumb idea.

Mik probably has the deepest pool of NHLers of anyone in the league. He's not really out much in this deal but in terms of talent...while I've added to my team at the risk of picks that could be/might be worth something in a few years. Obviously, this works well for Mik. I just helped him jailbreak all his young guys on cheap contracts that he's had to stash in the minors.

I think the issue is you traded 1sts in the past with the opposite justification of adding depth to your team in order to get stronger, and now you're adding single pieces that are older and already signed to huge contracts. The fact that you're in the basement and needed to move MDZ in order to free up cap should already be an indication maybe this isn't a good direction to take.

Tbf, he is now 7th last in the league (I think), which is the best he has been since I've joined. Malkin should probably help him move up a few spots...and then next year he could trade his 2019 first and possibly move up a few spots. It's not like he hasn't improved at all...he has a bit.

Precisely the point. You literally solved all it Mik's problems for him and for what? A few extra wins? I'd much rather have Tyler Johnson on his current contract to Malkin. And depending on what he gets on his next contract would probably still take Johnson. Let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say this rebuild of yours takes 3 years then what? Your best player is a 33 year old with a bloated fantasy contract and probably lacking depth because you've traded your 1sts away. I get that Malkin is one of the best players in the world, but in the grand scheme of things here he really isn't a huge upgrade over Johnson. Your 1st should have never even entered the conversation when you had all the leverage in the deal because I highly doubt anyone else was going to pay anywhere close to this.

I've been thinking about it.

Let's say Scott's 1st is 6th-10th...

Wiercoch is probably worth that det 2nd.

Folin is worth maybe a 1st + 2nd

So its

Malkin
20th oa
45th oa

For

Johnson
7th oa ish

So unless Scott's team had completely tanked back to before I don't think it's terrible. Folin is pretty good.

I'd say the mdz trade is bad tho. Mdz has improved and is becoming a bbkl beast.

Lol what? You think Wiercoich is worth only a 2nd, but Folin is worth a 1st+2nd? Plus the entire basis of your argument doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense.

Sure is. Why MacDonald is playing over MDZ? Well, wish I could give a good reason for that, but one does not exist.

I've gotta be honest I love Geno but I like this a lot better for Mik. I can completely see where Scott is coming from with wanting to compete soon though. I don't blame him at all for wanting to go for it.

I do like it for Mik.. and I don't think Scott should add a 1st on top of it.. but I think Scott's first will be around 7 to 10

to be honest, there are no quick fixes to this league.. unless you trades everyday and WINS 90% of the trades like shiv did.. otherwise.. best way is through getting top draft picks and have a good pool of prospects..
i totally understand no one wants to be in the basement.. so i do like scott trying to win and make trades.. but the longer you wait to properly rebuild (kimmer.....).. the longer it will stay there.. that's my opinion..
it is also important to note that i definitely do not think one or two star players would help.. a strong team MUST have lots of depth.. i doubt there is 1 star player who can produce 2 players stats.. that's also why Tony's team has been great success with lots of role players who r good bbkl players.. my team looks strong with star power but i actually have lots of depth in the whole lineup too...

and to be honest, im not a big fan of johnson.. johnson will also be getting pay like 6mil per.. so i think it's not that bad next year..but i just think he doesn't have to surrender the 1st to go along with the deal
