I just think of an auction as the best legit offer wins. The point of it is to create a bidding war, but if there is an unknown reserve then it's the same as a trading block since only an offer he thinks is a win for him will be accepted.

For example Vlasic for McAvoy should meet whatever the reserve value is, but he can choose to turn it down if it's a trade block and not an auction.
